This poem was requested by and is dedicated to @beat-the-bookies. He requested a poem about gambling and specifically from the quote, "A gambler never makes the same mistake twice. It's usually three or more times." I have a feeling anyone who bets on sports will appreciate this but I hope the rest of you find it enjoyable as well!
From the first day I won a bet
I knew I would never ever forget
That feeling you get with your first win
Sports would never be the same again
It starts with a small wager here and there
And then every game has its own prayer
A gambler never makes the same mistake twice
If only we followed that advice
Instead, it’s usually three or more times
But we never learn to respect the lines
Life’s too short to bet the under
I tried that, a hell of a blunder
The home team has the advantage
But that doesn’t mean that they’ll manage
This team is hot, they got it for sure
What the fuck happened? That game was a blur
Why bet on one team when there’s parlay?
Don’t be greedy, just one team will pay
Oh they’re favored, moneyline is secure
Ha! I’m an idiot, that’s for sure
The line is wrong, the underdog has it
I’m such a dumb piece of shit
My team is looking good, I won’t hedge
We blew it, now I’m wedged
But it’s all about the thrill of the chase
Right. Just get me out of this place
I swear this bet is guaranteed to work
As I grab my credit card, with a smirk
This poem was a lot of fun and I feel like I probably could have done 2 pages worth on gambling. I very well might have to expand on this. Next up will be a poem for @grow-pro about his kiddos - I'm sure anyone with kids will appreciate it just a little more. I am still open to more suggestions. Give me a topic and I'll do my damnedest to write a poem for you. It can literally be about anything - happy, sad, funny, depressing, whatevs. If you want a personal poem or something specific, please be sure to give me enough information or anything that you would want included. Hopefully this will catch some speed and a lot of people will want their very own personalized poem. If my poem meets your standards, then all I ask for is a resteem to spread the joy. Thanks for reading and let's hear some ideas!
