Congratulations PIVX for making Hisotry With another 1st in the Crypto-sphere
I've been a huge fan of PIVX ever since I discovered the project.The community is awesome and the UX is really really well done. They do everything right and market themselves properly. But above all, what truly matters in the long term is the technology and PIVX is going an excellent job with that.
According to https://cryptomiso.com PIVX is ranked at #55 when it comes to Github commits. Ethereum is ranked #63 and STEEM/SBD are ranked even lower. PIVX was the first POS coin to implement ZeroCoin privacy and they are going to take it to a whole new level today with their new wallet with over 70,000 updated lines of code.
There is way too many things in the roadmap and they are getting them done few at a time. In few hours PIVX will make history by being the first in the world to implement Zerocoin Proof of Stake.
That's not all. There is Deterministic zPIV Seed Keys
Zerocoins, or zPIV, are now deterministically generated using a unique 256 bit seed. Each wallet will generate a new seed on its first run. The deterministic seed is used to generate a string of zPIV that can be recalculated at any time using the seed. Deterministic zPIV allows for users to backup all of their future zPIV by simply recording their seed and keeping it in a safe place (similar to backing up a private key for PIV). The zPIV seed needs to remain in the wallet in order to spend the zPIV after it is generated, if the seed is changed then the coins will not be spendable because the wallet will not have the ability to regenerate all of the private zPIV data from the seed. It is important that users record their seed after their first run of the wallet. If the wallet is locked during the first run, then the seed will be generated the first time the wallet is unlocked.

There is also an additional bonus. With the proposed new block reward system, zPIV staking block reward will be 50% larger than PIV staking rewards.
If everything goes well, we'll see history being made in a few more hours. Better tech that help the users always eventually win. The current ~323 million USD marketcap is just too tiny for a legend like this. I wish them best of luck to change the future.

It won't be a Bitshares killer. But It'd certainly be a massive blow to any "Currency" coin that isn't named Dash.

You won't be getting many airdrops from a coin with good governance unless it is a smart contract platform. All of the masternodes and vast majority of the other wallets went with the upgrade. No other fork is going to get any support or development.
As for investments you can look at @haejin @ew-and-patterns @freeforever for some short term Technical analysis. If you are more of a long term investor, fundamentals is a better way to invest. There are so many good ones and it's better to look at smaller marketcaps. For n example I'd invest in PIVX over Dash because PIVX doesn't even have 10% of the marketcap of Dash despite being super similar (PIVX started out as sort of a POS Dash).
NEM(XEM) is super solid and it's been around for so long and it's innovative and use cases are massive (https://nem.io/enterprise/use-cases) but it's already huge. It can easily 10X but we can have better picks down the road.

Komodo has gread potential and few things that nobody else can offer. Their Github is very active. According to https://cryptomiso.com it is the the highest amount of Github commits in the last 12 months.

My eye was caught mostly by Waltonchain and Komodo, so I'll check those out.
I already have BAT, invested a month or so ago, was instantly hooked with the Brave browser, it's like firefox but upgraded but with a few glitches to iron out - and so many make a coin without a working product, and here we have a whole working browser!! - and I have tripled my investment since. And nobody's resume is gonna beat "inventor of javascript" 😄
