What are you looking at... punk??!
This one goes straigth to the podium as the meanest looking green iguana I've ever seen... and I've seen a few!
Maybe the fact that the canoe we were on was going to pass near her basking spot might have something to do with it! Iguanas, as all reptiles, are poikilotherms, meaning that their body temperature fluctuates, and they regulate it by several mechanisms, one of them is basking in the sun... as it was the case here.
This is an adult male, easily identifiable in this case, due to the size of the spikes down its back and the huge dewlap. The mean expression... for me just adds up to its beauty! I love to watch almost all kinds of wildlife, but reptiles do have a special fascination! These photos were taken during a canoe ride in Tortuguero National Park, at Costa Rica.
