Three Tunisian Camels

Three camels in the Sahara Desert in Tunisia. Our guide seemed mildly amused as we made him stop the car every time we came across camels in the desert. He only spoke French and Arabic while my wife and I only speak English and Spanish and our traveling companion only spoke English and Mandarin so it was a little hard to communicate but I was able to understand when he said none of the camels we saw were wild. They all had owners and would all eventually be sent to the butcher for food.

In butcher shops in Tunisia it's common to see the head of whatever animal was just butchered hanging on a meat hook outside the butcher shop. I had never seen that before and it was especially strange to see camel heads hanging outside the shops. I didn't try any camel meat but my wife said it was delicious. I figure it must be healthy since they all seemed to be free range camels.
