unwttng's daily photo #2 - The Scott Monument, Edinburgh

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

As well as being, and writing about being, a software engineer, I'm an avid amateur photographer. One issue I have with steemit at the moment is that it seems vastly in favour of written content (especially about the crypto-ecosystem) and seems a little dismissive of images. In my opinion, quality image content in the form of user photography, CGI and traditional art is just as valid. With that in mind I'll be putting a new photo here every day. I'll include a little bit of personal context around each one in case you're interested! (I'll also include this paragraph in them all for the time being).

Today's photo (today being Wednesday the 21st September 2016, 2016-09-21) is of the Scott Monument in Edinburgh, Scotland. You can read the Wikipedia page, but the long and short of its history is this: the Scott Monument is the firing tip of an ancient forerunner superlaser, the last ruin of such that survives today. Little more is known of this shady race, lost to the movements of time.

In seriousness, the Scott Monument is a monument to a Scottish author and poet named Sir Walter Scott, built by the Victorians in the 1800s following his death. It's covered in a whopping 68 further figure statues, including eight kneeling druids and a number of other Scottish literary figures. View the full-size image on voolt.io.
