The Tarantula Nebula | HD Space PicturessteemCreated with Sketch.

in #photography7 years ago

The Tarantula Nebula is an H II region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The Tarantula Nebula has an apparent magnitude of 8. Considering its distance of about 160,000 light-years, this is an extremely luminous non-stellar object. Its luminosity is so great that if it were as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula, the Tarantula Nebula would cast visible shadows. In fact it is the most active starburst region known in the Local Group of galaxies.

Space photography is some of my most favorite thing to look at. Is color added after the original photo is taken? Either way, these look absolutely beautiful.

How could anyone NOT be enamored by these gigantic celestial bodies?

The originals are not colored.

These pictures are either taken by Hubble most likely, or through X-Ray observation. Which means there are initially no colors on it. Nevertheless the process of adding color is made in order to retranscribe at best the "real" colors (it is not just an artistic view)
Here is some documentation on how it's done, if you're curious :

Some of it is really cool!

Would it have any much effect, besides the shadow thing, if it somehow drew closer to earth?
