This steemit photo geek thing:

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

An ongoing trend on steemit seems to be to post a single photo with nothing else with it but some photo geek tech specs. Typically this will be something along the lines of Canon SX666, 66mm, F6.

Clearly, for some people, this information is so overwhelmingly gripping that things like location, date, photographer, or what on earth the photo is actually of, can all be dispensed with. Really if you know what the lens and aperture is, what else do you need to know?

Following this minimalist style of describing things, women would be “Jane 36/28/34” and men would be “John $54,000 PA”. And when watching the Tour de France, a stage winner would be “Fabio, DuraAce 50x11T”. One of my favourite photographers on Steemit, @daxon once said “photography is not about the camera, it’s a state of mind”. I’m sure that is one of the reasons why he always takes absolutely amazing photos.

For anyone who wants to find out about camera gear, I highly recommend the site: https://www.dpreview.com/ - where you can read about camera gear (and see really in depth camera reviews) until the cows come home.

For me the two most important things in a camera are that it is a Canon, so I know where the controls are, and that it is small enough to fit in my pocket so its there when I need it.

All modern cameras tend to be pretty high spec and can take photos that are high res enough to do things with. Two of my favourite photo editing tools are the android app Snapseed, and Adobe Photoshop- either Photoshop 7 (2003) or CS 7 (2014).

And now for a possible new trend in photo descriptions - random photo details

Sitting on toilet, having a dump, cool toilet roll holder, bog paper running low

Holy crap our blender has just caught fire - photo taken while freaking out on back path

And what else would anyone possibly want to know about a photo? If it’s true that a picture says 1000 words then words are redundant anyway, so we could all just post a photo of our camera under our feature photo.

I stop to watch trending posts. They are full of shit and they are there because of the bots. It would be fun to make a complete inane post go trending and make fun of certain someones.

So you don't think taking a photo of a babies dummy is worth $300?

What about if the photo had an amazing aperture?

Wouldn't it be cool to just start posting photos on Steemit and be getting $300 for each snapshot after less than two weeks? WTF?

WOW. That's absurd. The most hilarious thing is that this guy define himself abstract photographer. How can people appreciate you when you pay upvote for your stuff?

That new account is a scam - just have a look at who is upvoting it!

Go mister honest!

How disgusting! How can we get rid of this subject?
Bro, can I ask you to help me win the beersaturday contest? Would you upvote my comment over here? Sorry for spamming, but how do I ask otherwise? :)
Here you go https://steemit.com/beersaturday/@detlev/win-from-15-sbd-in-prizes-steemit-beersaturday-challenge-week-37-calls-all-steemians-to-join

Done - don't drink it all at once!

Thanks mate and cheers! I don't drink it at all ;)

And why not give these fancy photos a name. You see your image above. Look what happens to it when you give it a name though!

Fuck Dieting

A certain IKEA lamp commercial comes to mind.

There needs to be blender control laws to stop terrorism!

Gang and Bang

I made a small gift for you. I hope you will like this gift 😎

“Fabio, DuraAce 50x11T” for the win!

But seriously, the short hand for photo people seem to be what they use on photo sharing boards. Everyone already knows, or doesn't care about all the other crap.

... accept that this is a social media site, so we kinda want all the other crap, and most of us do not know what "Canon SX666, 66mm, F6." even means, or if it is a bogus number pulled out of someone's ass.

Further, steemit is formatted to 640px width, so that is all the image size you will ever need. 10 megapixels? Way to overkill.

I'm saving up for something that can do 640px

i had that same cannon camera on the far right back in the day, might even still be in a box somewhere.
if you have 2 the same resolution you should mount them so you can take steroscope videos and pictures. think its like 3.5-4 inches between the lenses you need or something like that.

just found a quick video so you can get the idea of what im talking about.
:D

That old camera was from 2001 and they used to cost NZ$1800 - it was built like a brick and survived five years of hard thrashing - it actually did do 640 px.

Steroscopic videos? - are you turning geek?

I had no clue it was that expensive, i got mine from a roomate for 60bucks cause he found it at the beach and needed money to take a date out. if i would have known i prolly would have taken it to the pawn shop.
lol
Ive always been a geek, just mising the money to buy the hardware.
:D

hahah great to see your post after a long time it was much awaited :D

It's been a week - did you miss me?

I'm glad @daxon just came back to Steemit!

He was one of the first people I followed and I think he does all sorts of awesome stuff!

CANON in the pocket is like two in the bush. Something like that.
