B&W Photo Contest | Water | Subotica
During my time in Greece as a volunteer I was closely following the situation in areas nearby and identified Serbia as a huge problem area. Landlocked by the EU but not being a member itself meant that conditions were beyond aweful. No official aid and multiple Jungle camps, mixed with the Hungarians closing the boards and fiercely patrolling, even occasionally crossing the border to beat individuals waiting with the hope of sneaking through. It was dire. This shot was taken in Subotica in an old brick factory. They were drawing water from a well to wash with…and also to drink. We tested it and it was anything but safe to drink, however without any other solution they were forced to live this way.
Keep an eye out for future posts about this where I will elaborate more and include further pictures - I will write about it sometime in late November/early December.
Thanks to @daveks for this weekly contest and @timsaid for judging!
