Trip to Montenegro V - Shkodra, Albania [EN/DE]

Another daytrip we made during our stay in Montenegro was a guided bus tour to Albania. I´ve been very excited, because that´s not a popular place to go during vacation. What we found this day was a country with beautiful landscapes, a rich history, wearing the scars of war. You recognize there´s a lot of poverty which makes you feel bad, because you come to do sightseeing and leave again to a better place. But let me show the pictures I took there.

Construction on the road we were coming. We had to wait a while, then we could pass the street, that was not ready yet.

The first stop lead us to an ancient ruin on a little hill - Rozafa. This name comes from the heartbreaking legend how this castle was built:

Three brothers tried to build a castle. But every night the walls fell apart. An old man gave advice to wall a woman to hold the castle together forever. The brothers decided to sacrifice the wife who was the first bringing lunch the next day. Against their agreement the two older brothers told their wives the evening before. So the next day the youngest wife arrived - poor Rozafa. She accepted her fate and asked for one favor: One breast for feeding her little baby, one arm for petting and one leg to rock the cradle should be left outside the wall. [1]

From the top of the castle you have a stunning overview over the surrounding area, where the both rivers Drin and Kir are passing by.

The destination of our trip was the city Shkodra, close to the border to Montenegro. We visited a church and the center of the city. We also had some free time to explore the area. Here are my impressions:

After Shkodra we went for lunch together at a very good restaurant outside the city, located at the river. Unfortunately I can´t remember the name. This trip was a pretty interesting experience and I´d do it again. I think we all should be grateful every day, if we can see our kids growing up in a peaceful environment with having everything they need.
