WILD TURKEYS IN WISCONSIN
We saw a lot of these today!
On our way over to visit @provider, @mini-provider, @msgreenthumb and some other friends in Wisconsin, we passed multiple groups of wild turkeys. Originally, the large males were puffed up with their tail feathers spread, but they stopped when they saw us. I was still able to take some good photos though, so here are some favorites.
The DNR estimates over 350,000 wild turkeys to Wisconsin. Now their taking over peoples back yard bird feeders. They are birds after all. To bad wild turkeys don't make good eating. Dose not taste like chicken.
wow, these are wonderful creatures, the male can pride or pose like "tomorrow no dey".. exhibits territorialism, can fight even human beings. I used to rear some domesticated turkeys as a teenager.
Are you sure that poor little boy didn't just lose his future manhood to that tom.
lol, some of these birds can be daring!
Given their 20mm spur a male turkey can take out a child's eye in a split second. They are not harmless by any means.
That one looks intimidating.
Love the one where the tail feathers are up. Beautiful shots, @papa-pepper. I have it on authority that they are pretty tasty birds, although I have never eaten one myself.
Who is rearing those turkeys @papa-pepper or are you in a forest . never believe that there are still wild turkeys
These are wild. Sometimes you encounter them in the woods or fields.
around her we are overrun with them, I saw some having a battle on the front lawn of the library.
it is incredible everything that nature gives us, look at those beautiful specimens, congratulations for the beautiful catch dear friend @ papa-pepper
I wish you a good start to the week
Yeah, it was really cool to see them! Thanks @jlufer!
The wild turkey is an amazing bird and the wonderful pictures you have taken express its beauty
Thank you! They are a really interesting species and we enjoy seeing them!
Never seen these wild ones before. Been used to the normal breeds around here. Hahaha they are really strong, to withstand that kind of cold too. They are wild after all. This type might chase people hahahahahahahaha. Fear of the unknown.
Mostly the wild ones seem to run from people. Some people keep similar ones here, but others have domesticated white ones.
Wow...quite the opposite, that's cool. No wonder they stopped their puff show offs when you were driving through. Thanks Papa for throwing more light to this. Much appreciated sir.
Papa this are wild turkey. They can dangerous
Thankfully, we were safe!
seen a group of wild turkeys but very beautiful and fascinating. Really I want to see it directly because in my country in Indonesia rarely can see a bunch of turkeys, here in my place you can only see a bunch of chickens.
@papa-pepper, is it their aggressive nature that made them wild? Because i have seen a turkey attacking a human years ago.
Well, those photographs are wonderful and the turkeys were quite a view. They almost looked like ostrich....
I think he called them wild because the are free in the nature, the are not domesticated and they don't belong to a hatchery.
Correct!
