Mushrooms at the Tankenberg, The Netherlands

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Yesterday, we went for a walk in the forest around the Tankenberg, the highest point in the region, a whopping 85 meters! It is part of a pushed-moraine landscape left in place by the glaciers in the last Ice Age. In an otherwise flat landscape these hills qualify as mountains to us Dutch. The last photo shows a view from the top of the Tankenberg, but, as so often, I was there for the fungi.

The mild weather got the mushrooms growing again, they were there in abundance:

I also found this ominous-looking black one, a first for me, I haven't seen this kind before:

Little yellow blobs on dead wood, some already liquid:

I don't know what these are, but the fallen branch was a ready-made composition:

Having reached the highest point of the hill, I (finally) looked up from the ground to enjoy the view. It was too hazy to get a good photo, but here is one I prepared earlier, in summer:

More photos from this walk tomorrow.

In the second picture, it looks like you found Auricularia auricula-judae. Without 100% sure, though...

I eat the wood ear mushrooms (Auricularia auricula-judae) that I find, just because they are fun, more than having any great-tasting strong flavor. But in the second picture, they don't quite match up to what I'm used to seeing. I think those are one of the Exidia, either E. nigricans or E. glandulosa, because they are fused into bigger patches, rather than staying as individual mushrooms. And they seem pretty black to be the usually brown wood ears. Just my take on it. But it's @ocrdu that would take the risk to eat it, lol. ; )

The black one looks like tree ears. If it is, you have to take them. Very good mushrooms. I like the taste. I usually buy dried tree ears, use then after soaking.

@ocrdu perfect shot of the horizon!
Aren't the ominous black ones the edible mice ears?

Could be, but I would need to be sure before I eat them 8-).

@ocrdu they make good ingredients for chapchae noodles - crunchy and goes well with soy sauce

@ocrdu lol - dit kan ik ook in mijn kip teriyaki recept doen - oh dat zal lekkerder zijn haha
