Moths: Six-Spot Burnet

The six-spot burnet (Zygaena filipendulae), sint-jansvlinder in Dutch, has a wing span of about 35mm (1.2") and is found in Europe, the Caucasus, and around the Black Sea.

It is common in The Netherlands, where it flies from June to early August, mainly on hot days.

For the benefit of Ms. Barnes I would like to stress that, like other moths, this one isn't aggressive at all, can't bite, and mostly just sits there in the sun and eats without taking much notice of humans.
