Caterpillars: Garden Tiger Moth
The caterpillar of the garden tiger moth (Arctia caja), grote beer in Dutch:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO200, f5, 1/100s
This species is found in Europe, the US, and Canada, and prefers colder climates. Other than that, they are not picky about their habitats.
"[The caterpillars] are generalists, meaning they eat a large variety of plants without much specialization. However, most larvae of this species obtain their characteristic toxic compounds from their diet." (Wikipedia)
Unfortunately, I have never seen the (also poisonous) moth that eventually emerges from this caterpillar myself; these moths are quite beautiful:

Thanks for watching!

Nice one!
I reared many of these in Scotland. For some reason my kids always wanted to name these caterpillars Allison so we had Allison 1st, Allison 2nd, and so on :-)
8-) Allison? Why?
This is one of the most beautiful moths I know. If I am lucky enough to meet a caterpillar this year, I will definitely breed it.
