Butterflies: Orange Tip

in #photography7 years ago

The uninspiredly named orange tip (Anthocharis cardamines), oranjetipje in Dutch, can be seen from March to June in The Netherlands, but individuals only live for about three weeks as an adult, quite a contrast to the brimstone's whole year I posted about yesterday.

They are usually found near wet grasslands, but strangely, the males hang out around the edges of forests whereas the females prefer meadows. They do meet, of course, to make mating more practical.

Wings-closed, they show an interesting camouflage pattern:

The females have to make do without the orange wing tips:

Thanks for watching!

Ugh!! This is lovely, I fear for their shot life span, really wished they could live more than that. Thanks @ocrdu for passing this knowledge, I never knew about this before Now. I'm following cos I want to read and learn more.

Beautiful butterfly and colourful flowers

Looks like they have their winter fur on.
I like the pattern on the lower wings.
