Morning!

A foggy cold morning it was, we packed our stuff, walked towards the road and saw a sign with Spa 16 km. We didn’t really care what we were going to do that day, so we just went in that direction. We walked, and walked, tried to hitch a ride but everyone was just speeding past us. The road towards spa was one big hill going up, so it was quite heavy walking. We put on some music and took a break after having walked 2 hours.

Rushing to Spa

After 10 minutes, just when we started walking again, we saw a car coming up really fast. We did our best hitchhiker’s thumb, the lady noticed us and stopped. She was the first out of 30 cars to stop. We said we needed to go to Spa and she told us she was in a hurry and needed to go to work and that she was going in that direction and was able to drop us off at the station. Great! We put our stuff in the car, and the lady took off! She really wanted to get to work on time, that’s why she was driving two times the speed limit. Even though she had to drive around, she wanted to drop us off in the city. In a really short time we arrived.

I didn't really take pictures of Spa, I was more impressed by the colourful trees.

To the forest

We found a cafe where we could check our maps and go to the toilet. On the map we saw a big forest North of Spa. We thought of going there to find a place to sleep. On the way there we took some kind of strange elevator. At first we thought it was some kind of rollercoaster, it wasn't but it was quite fast. The thing took us up a big hill where we got this view:

The elevator stopped inside Thermes de Spa, which is a wellness centre.

Arriving at the forest, 15 minutes from the Thermes there was a big sign with rules of the private forest. It said it had foresteers, you couldn't camp, smoke, litter or make a fire and it was forbidden to be in the forest after sundown. We took a look at our map, and decided to go to another forest West of where we were.

A big climb

After a long walk we finally got out of the forest, it was dark. We had to climb down a steep hill which led to a road. Crossing the road, we saw some houses. We walked past them and tried to find a spot to climb up the big hill. The hill was too steep to climb, so we had to walk further. When the hill looked climbable, we decided to go for it. There were stingy bushes, and plants all over the place. It took us half an hour to climb and push through the shit, it was very exhausting. Because it was really steep, you had to walk on hands and feet, or else you'd slip.

When we finally got up the hill, we arrived in the big dark forest. There was enough room for our tent and a campfire between the trees. We felt really accomplished by finding such an awesome spot. It was really worth the climb. We first made a fire, which was quite some work. We set up our tent, and put cans of beans and soup on the fire. After we ate and chilled, we went to bed.
