Food in the Making - Garden Progress Photos

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

The garden is starting to actually look like something! It was a slow start here in NJ, we had cool weather and a lot (a real lot) of heavy rain so the garden wasn't really progressing. The last couple of weeks it warmed up quite a bit. This helped dry out the very wet ground and get some growing going.

You can see how this garden started by checking out my earlier posts:

Let the Gardening Begin
Let the Sunshine..

I didn't take close ups of everything but we have eggplants, peppers, squash, cucumbers, beets radishes, salad greens, beans, tomatoes, herbs of all sorts ... and some flowers. Since I'm not using herbicides, keeping the weeds to a minimum is a constant battle that I'm sure, I'll loose as the summer progresses.

All season strawberries - not sure how these will work out but so far we've harvested about 4 berries.
The basil going gang busters, especially in the greenhouse.

Squash is flowering
Salad Greens popping up!

Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes

I'm trying potatoes too. Put some "eye sprouting" spuds under a few inches of soil. Best to use organic potatoes to start with, many others won't sprout. Water and let it grow for a bit, once the greens are several inches high, add more dirt, continue to the top of the planter. Then you'll (supposedly) have several layers of potatoes at harvest time.

So exciting! I hope you get tons when it comes time to harvest. I bet those 4 strawberries were handled with great care :) Precious little bounty!

Thanks @jaymorebeet. It was the first year trying strawberries...they were very tasty!

Lovely garden you have got! Soon you will have lots yummy tomatos...hmm.i miss summer!

Looks great! Looks like it's going to be a yummy summer!

I hope so @jamiewright! Gotta love Jersey Tomatoes!

That's a fabulous plot you got going on there. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

Keep on Growing!

Our heavy rains here in indiana put our garden way behind schedule. Yours look really nice. Looking forward to more updates.

thanks @johncalvin. One would think a lot of rain is helpful, but not so much.

wow amazing pictures. good work

Thank you @thelit.

Interesting - haven't heard of that technique with the potatoes. I'm only a few days into researching how to properly garden. Love seeing posts like these - thanks for sharing! Followed ;)

I just learned about it this season. Not sure how it will turn out but it cost me organic potatoes so not much to loose!

Also, thought I should let you know that I shouted this article out in my last post (its towards the bottom in the conclusion section). Thanks again for sharing the idea!

Looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Not going to be doing potatoes this year, but this is such a great way to maximize space. Jotting the idea down now
