Jungle Shots: Christmas Datura Blooms

in #photography6 years ago

The first time I saw one of these flowers in person was a year ago, on Christmas Eve as we went to Walmart to buy Risk the board game. Yes, you read that right. The board game. I saw this flower in our driveway and about lost it as I had recently posted a post about learning about this flower online. Now, a year later it bloomed for me again on Christmas, although it bloomed earlier than that this year thanks to our quails fertilizing the earth beneath this plant.

Also called a trumpet flower, but Looks like a lily, Lily

It is very similar to a Lily, I think that's part of why I like it so much.

Deavils trumpet Possibly what they gave the living servants of the pharaoh right before they got walled up alive with the king in his tomb.

Also from wikipedia

Datura belongs to the classic "witches' weeds", along with deadly nightshade, henbane, and mandrake. Most parts of the plants are toxic, and datura has a long history of use for causing delirious states and death. It was well known as an essential ingredient of potions and witches' brews

Yep, was used in Huichol medicine here in Mexico before peyote. Known as the crazy tree or arbol de loco.

NICE! @viraldrome and @lily-da-vine, great information, Thanks!
