Fujinon Lenses — Is Fuji Really the “New Leica”?

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

[Текст на српском] I have recently post up a text about the extraordinary Fringer adapter which allows use of Canon lenses at the Fujifilm X bodies with full functionality, just as on native bodies. Our respected user @yu-stem has reacted, showing that he undoubtly know the topic, but he obviously didn’t check prices before sending his comment. I’m glad to report very good news in this case…

„Fuji, definitely the most beautiful bodies in the market. Plus they're the most functional. Albeit the prices of native lenses are the highest. The combination with Canon looks ideal.“
@yu-stem

I will use a chance to dedicate entire text to this answer and the Fuji optics.

The Fuji bodies are practically uncontested in the market, because besides them, the only the overpriced Leica has basic exposure controls made as the Lord commanded :)

Good news — their lenses are not the most expensive at all, but they are convincingly the best value for money, and without dilemma top-notch, regardless of competition. For example, the Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR ($899) is optical and mechanical perfection:

Only Sigma makes nearly half priced APSC alternative, but this lens is far, far from the features and quality that Fuji is offering. If we look at the prices of corresponding FF solutions, 24mm f1.4…

  • Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM — $1549
  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED — $1997
  • Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens — $849

…then it does not look that expensive, is it?

Then we have optically brilliant “pancake”, Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 for only $399 (and much less if you buy it with some of the bodies as a kit).

Then we have extraordinary Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 R WR који за $449 ($400 if you buy it with Fujifilm X-E3 body) stands side by side with the Leica’s legend, the Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH lens, which costs $3295. Together with the body it is three times cheaper than the Leica’s lens!

And then unique Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R, $899. The only FF competition…

  • Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 (manual focusing) — $740
  • Rokinon SP 85mm f/1.2 (manual focusing) — $899
  • Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM — $1849 (OK, this Canon lens is better, but also twice the price).

Ken Wheeler (Angry Photographer a.k.a. Theoria Apophasis) is right when he says at YouTube that Fuji is the new Leica. Furthermore, it is enough to put on the X body Leica M adapter of some twenty dollars, and so it becomes the real Leica 😊

Appreciation to our user @yu-stem for the inspiration in creating of this text.
