Green photos from Nongkhai, วันที่สอง รูปภาพสีเขียวจากหนองคาย

Last weekend we have been very busy doing a lot of work in the garden. The weather has become nice and dry with some thick clouds in the sky for some shade. Luckily we had some rain during early morning hours which made the digging job a lot easier.

The white fish in the lily pond had all disappeared because they have all been eaten by some birds. The white and silver colour fish are very easy to spot so those hunting birds had a good time feeding themselves. so we are left with only red fish in the pond. I was thinking of buying some new colourful fish to mix with the current fish population. But beautiful fish are not hardy enough to survive in this pond, the last time I bought four new fish, three died within a few days. I still could not locate the fourth fish, I presumed the bird got him a long time ago.

During the rainy season, everything looks so green and wonderful. It is nice to get up early just before the sunrise to see the morning fog being chased away by the first rays of the sun. The smell of the earth is very refreshing in the morning and the energy from the river is very soothing. I feel so grateful to be standing on the veranda in the morning looking at the far away mountains and natural surroundings while having my coffee. The birds are always very noisy as they all seem to have young chicks in their nests. The migrating birds from China are still around in the bamboo jungle; I have seen many white stalks and a few ibis by the river this season. We have several local birds such as starlings and greater coucals. The other day, I found a young man with a pneumatic gun on a motor bike trying to shoot some birds around my house. I told him that the area is a nature reservation for people to come to practice Dhamma and a meditation retreat. So, all hunting and killings are forbidden and I asked him to leave. Luckily he understood my intention and politely left the area.

เสาร์อาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมาเราได้ทำงานกันหลายเรื่องในสวน โชคดีที่มีฝนตกในตอนเช้า ทำให้ดินนุ่มกำลังดีสำหรับการขุดเพื่อปลูกต้นไม้ ตอนนี้เราคิดว่าจะต้องหาปลาที่มีสีสวยๆมาใส่บ่อปลา ปลาสีขาวและสีเงินหายหมด คงโดนนกมาจิกกินหมดจึงเหลือแต่ปลาหางนกยูงสีแดง เราชอบตื่นมาดูพระอาทิตย์ขึ้น ได้เห็นหมอกบางๆในตอนเช้าค่อยๆถูกแสงอาทิตย์ละลายไปในอากาศ เราโชคดีมากที่มีบุญได้มายืนดูวิวแม่นํ้าและธรรมชาติสีเขียว มาสูดอากาศบริสุทธิ์และนั่งดื่มกาแฟชมวิวทิวทัศน์อย่างนี้ ถึงแม้ว่าจะเป็นเพียงธรรมชาติแบบพื้นๆ ไม่เหมือนป่าในภาคเหนือที่มีภูเขา ถํ้าและนํ้าตก

ช่วงนี้เราเห็นนกที่หนีความหนาวมาจากประเทศจีนบ้าง มีนกกระยางสีขาวมาหลายร้อยตัวแล้ว และมีนกช้อนหอยขาวมาให้เห็นบ้าง ส่านนกที่บริเวณบ้านก็มีนกเอี้ยงสาลิกาที่ชอบร้องเพลงแข่งกันในตอนเช้า และนกกระปูดตาแดงหลายตัว เราห้ามชาวบ้านมาดักจับนกแถวนี้ จนนกได้ขยายครอบครัวกันมากขึ้น เมื่อวันก่อนเราบังเอิญเจอพรานหนุ่มขี่มอเตอร์ไซด์ถือปืนลมยาว มาตามยิงนกใกล้บ้าน เราจึงเข้าห้ามยิงนก ทั้งๆที่เขากำลังเล็งปืนพอดี เราก็บอกว่าที่นี่เป็นเขตอภัยทาน เป็นที่ปฎิบัติธรรมนั่งสมาธิ จึงห้ามมีการฆ่าสัตว์ตัดชีวิต และขอให้เขาไปที่อื่นด้วย ซึ่งเขาก็ยินยอมทำตามและ ขี่รถมอเตอร์ไซด์จากไป
