Drowning in our own litter

Hovering In The Ocean - How our daily litter ends up in the ocean & dismantles it's wildlife #socialphotography

An electric skateboard which used to be a popular trend amongst the youth not very long ago, has slowly faded away with time, but this specific one faded away with the tide...

I am a '' Thalassophile '' Which simply means I love the ocean. I live by the coast and take an early morning stroll by the uninhabited beach everyday. listening to the seagulls preparing to set off for the day, and the few sudden splashing sounds made by the fishes playing around in their natural habitat.

But along with the early morning low tide, comes into display an agonizing sight

A lifeless jellyfish lying amongst a bunch of human litter.

Being a long resident of the area, I've critically analysed how human litter has changed and shaped this beach. What used to be crystal blue ocean water full of wildlife such as, crabs, jellyfishes, seagulls and numerous species of fishes a couple years ago. When the area was less known to the public, has turned into a picnic area for the residents of the area and the people of the city as more and more people discover the beach. The water color has changed drastically along with the number of wildlife calling the area their home has decreased.

The dead creatures that wash up on the beach have often fed on the litter and fail to digest them or injure themselves with litter such as tin cans. It's regular a sight to see jellyfishes washed up that are still alive and breathing but they're either injured and unable to move or have they're tentacles shredded by all the debris we decide to throw in their habitat.

These are just my observations in my backyard but...
100,000 turtles and marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales and seals, are killed by plastic marine litter every year around the world, which is a fact that cannot be ignored. Not just the litter but industrial waste that enters the oceans from all over the world intoxicates our waters and does the same thing to the wildlife that global warming does to us humans.
