Drifting Championship, Superfinals
13 September was an awesome day because of the last drifting championship happened in Estonia this year. This is also called superfinals because this event concludes everything that happened in this years drifting season and season winner will be announced. I am not sure how many motorsports liking people are here but this post is gonna contain many many pictures of the event so enjoy it (or not).
Event happened at Rapla gocart track. We arrived there a little late after all the qualification runs had already happened. Fortunately, I arrived just in time to see the parade ( drivers introduction and showoff ). I got some pretty awesome pictures out of it.
In the next post, there will be video clips mixed together for you to see in action how this fun above looks like.
I also took many pictures of these drift cars in the pit area, not gonna put all of them here because its just so many but these are the best ones.
Not a drift car but ain't it a beauty?
After that, it was time to begin with the most interesting part, tandem drives. This means driving rounds where 2 drivers drive together side by side( best case scenario ) first one driver at the front and then the second driver the next run. Better driver will go against the driver that got a win from his drive. Top 32 to top 16 to top 8, it's logical until the finals.
There are 2 separate classes, pro-amateurs and pro class so 2 different championships there.
Let's see some in action shots.
That didn't go so well for the photographer guy on the photo below. I actually captured the moment when the guy got hit by a rock to the back and had to be transported to the hospital. ( I want to get a license next year to go and photograph on the track, hope I don't end up in the hospital like him).
I thought that this would be the end of the day but of course not. Organizers had something else in mind. The did a contest as there has never been before. They let the pro-amateur drivers choose the opponent from pro class for the tandem drives and do a full-size top 32 championship until the winner has been found.
There was one little problem for me. It was slowly getting dark and the wind went absolutely silent. No wind means that the smoke that cars produce won't go away. It just stays above the ground on the track which makes things difficult for judges and for photographers like me. Still, I managed to get some photos out of the harsh conditions.
I also got 1 video clip. Look at the flames bursting out of the white BMW's hood exhaust.
So this was it for this day and for this year. Next contest will be probably somewhere in May next year so let's get waiting.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's post where I mix together some clips of the driver's parade, this is some awesome shit.
It's more about the rallying here but i could easily get into the drifting if there was more of it on show here. The photo's really capture a lot of the day and i wouldn't mind going to the event. It looks massive. I hit up a cannonball rally just a couple of weeks back so i can get into most car events.
You should definitely visit some drifting event. Assuming from your profile pic you are from Ireland and drifting contests are happening there as well.
Season is probably over this year tho.

Amazing
wow you really got some amazing pictures! That first one with the red smoke is so epic, something out of Mad Max! Loved the video clip as well. That must have been such an awesome event to attend. Are you a drift driver as well or just an enthusiastic watcher?
Yes, this event is really awesome to watch, been watching drifting contests since 2009. Nah I'm not a drift driver myself. Maybe if I had loads of money I would do it. As for time being I'm just an enthusiastic watcher :D
Some more red smoke here.
That is just such a dramatic backdrop for a photo. Really makes these awesome areas of contrast between the smoke and the road and the car. These rock!!!

Too many awesomeness in just one post! I can't wait for your next post with videos of this cool event!
Thanx, the next post is going to be a video of this event!
Very colorful pictures, a lot of action, smoke and I assume noise. It looks like it took the whole day as on video it is too dark and the cars have their headlights on.
I believe it was exciting not only for drivers but for those guys in background who taking care of cars in the garages, they must be very proud with their work.
I am a bit curious seeing all the smoke was it difficult to breath, I personally hate exhaust smoke, especially diesel cars producing that a lot and that makes me cough. How did it feel there?
Yeah, the event was great and drift cars make a lot of noise yea. Well, all this smoke comes from the tires and it actually smells kinda sweet. When you are in the full smoke then its a little bit hard to breathe yes.
