Cars In The Park 2018 - A Photo Essay

Once a year, a large field outside of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, comes alive to the sound of Cars In The Park - considered by most to be the largest car show in the country.

Usually, the event is reserved for cars prior to 1985, but most car clubs can enter, provided the organizers find your club interesting enough. Remarkably, someone from my Subaru club sent in an entry request for our cars, which the organizers approved. Deciding to make the most of it, we all polished and cleaned our cars, and set out to exhibit our beasts from the east.

Naturally, I took my DSLR and drone with in order to capture the cars on display. Due to the enormous number of vehicles in attendance, it was literally impossible to photograph them all, so I've selected a few below to share with you all here.

Enjoy!

No idea what this is

Older JDM cars weren't really well represented, so it was nice to see this R32 GTR tucked away from the main crowd

So...much...gold

This was only half the event, and it was only 9am. Should give you an idea of how popular this event really is.

Clean and classic combo - an old Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz

IMG_4111.jpg
Some of the newer cars on display included this Porsche GT4 belonging to a friend of mine. I've driven this particular car and can confirm - the hype about it is real.

IMG_4150.jpg
There was a whole tent dedicated to older Mustangs, all owned by one person. One of them was still sporting California plates, which I loved.

IMG_4155.jpg
Two of the oldest, and certainly most expensive cars on display, came in this Rolls Royce duo - both from 1929.

IMG_4159.jpg
I've never seen either of these Merc's before, perhaps a classic car wizard can help out and educate me as to what they are?

IMG_4174.jpg
Another friend also bought with his entirely original 200SX, which only gets used twice a year. Such is the appeal of an event like this

Chrome for days. Also, I'm not sure if I like those aftermarket wheels.

IMG_4115.jpg
Spotted the infamous "widowmaker" - a Porsche GT2.

IMG_4179.jpg
The rotary club was also in attendance, and I spotted this highly worked RX7 just to make @nelkeljdm feel better about his current RX7 situation

Not your average lift kit

Gotta love the enormous stance of a widebody Turbo Porsche.

Little red riding hood...

One of the Subaru club members cars, clean as can be

Around mid-morning, we were treated to a parade by the arrival of the local supercar club

IMG_4185.jpg
They made quite an entrance

And then parked off, giving us poorer people a chance to have a closer look

I had to snap a few photos of my own car before I left, for historic purposes.

Hope you enjoyed all the photos!

Rawr! Mamamia, thank you for filling up my soul with all your journeys, work, passion and sharing all your amazing experience with us all. You know you already got resteem confirm when I saw that Porsche <3! I'm really blessed to have met you, you just made my day, Thank You for sharing, Steem on buddy!

Looks like a Mercedes-benz Type S maybe ? 1927

Haha, thanks @warrkin, when I saw that Porsche arrive I immediately ran over and spent a good half hour just looking at it.

Thought it may have been a Type S, but the one in the photo was actually pretty small. It certainly seems to be from around that era though.

There's just something special about 911's and that widebody booties. :)

They're only going to keep rising in value also. Some crazy prices already being asked for them...

Wow I am not really a car addict to be honest, but I do appreciate a pretty car, or an oldie that looks amazing.. So I loved reading (and looking at) this report you made. Thanks for sharing :)

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to look :)

Love taking my son to the local car shows. Boys love cars from such a young age. A buddy of mine also had the GT4; what a car that is!

Make sure they develop a car hobby, so that they won't have money for any bad things in life ;) (I don't have kids, so don't take my advice).

Haha...yeah. At the moment he is very young but spends all his money on toy cars but he is always telling me what he is going to buy one day. He seems to have a thing for Porsches though...good taste! His first word he every said was 'Car'!

Nice Picture garethb ! :D
