Toad Tuesday? Ok! (Original Photography)

Howdy!

It's hot again, and the mosquitos have returned in force. Walking to the river at Minneopa State Park, near Mankato, MN (USA), I was fending off the blood-thirsty squadron of winged insects and did manage to neutralize half a dozen.

Then, I noticed this little guy, doing his part to stop the 'skeeters.

"I'm a leaf. You can't see me..."
If he hadn't decided I wanted to eat him and hopped a couple times, I wouldn't have seen him at all. He must have decided remaining still was the best option, next. I was able to get my macro lens out, change settings, and almost poke him in the nose with it for the portrait shot.

Deep Roots
Of course, it's #treetuesday, and here is my contribution. The roots, clinging tightly to sandstone boulders, caught my eye. The natural framing made it interesting. Balancing on the edge of a six-foot drop made it tricky!

Natural Redheads
I did, eventually, see some birds in a dead tree. The earlier flooding left this one in the middle of the river, and these rather interesting dinosaur-descendants were resting up. I'm not sure what kind of birds they are, but they were diving for small fish. Is it just me, or do they look slick and aerodynamic?

After a few photos and a lot of mosquito bites, it was time to head back into town. I snapped this photo of the corn on the way out. The tassels look good, an indication that the crop has gotten plenty of moisture.

Very Veggie View
Back in my apartment, and ready to process images, I opened my laptop... and heard an awful CRACK! A couple weeks ago, the right hinge broke and needed repair. The left has followed suit! Hopefully, I'll be able to cobble it back together with epoxy. I can't afford to replace it as a graduate student.

Thank you for taking a look! If you enjoy my work, please click the upvote button. Comments are also greatly appreciated.

Nooooo not the OTHER hinge!! Fingers crossed the epoxy works again!!
Love the frogs!! I was taking pictures of frogs the other day, but none turned out like yours! Speaking of which...I was just in Vancouver and there was a poster of the trident horned Japanese beetle that you mentioned in one of your posts. Those wee buggers are invading Vancouver now too, but the point of my story is your photo of the beetle was bar none FAR superior to the photo on the poster :)

I love all these photos! I bet you could make a tarzan swing out of the sideways tree in the deep roots photo!

Those beetles are invading everywhere! Worse, they stink if you squish them... They are kind of cool looking, though.

That road was such a good sport. They tend to hold really still, even though they have to know they've been spotted. I thought about grabbing him and putting him on the brim of my hat, so he could feast on the mosquitos attacking me, but I figured he'd just dive off and injure himself.

Lol, you got a good idea there...tie about 6 toads by the legs around your hat and voila! flys be-gone!

I have to agree, where else do you see a bug with trident horns. I think with the nasty stink when bugs get stomped on is like a last hoorah. In Florida, I spotted a stick bug, which is uber cool cause it looks like a stick with legs. As my friend was in motion to stomp on the stick bug, I was saying nooooo (cause I had never seen one)my friend couldn't stop his motion and squished the stick bug. It took maybe .3 of a second and we all scattered to the 4 winds cause holy hell...stick bugs stink too when you stomp on them!!

Nice shots again fotosdenada, it looks more familiar like my home country where there is much more forrests than here in Andalusia, but anywho I love to be here ;)

Track you!

A town near here, New Ulm, was settled by Germans because it reminded them off their Homeland. There's even a big monument to Herman that they built in the 1800's, not that long after they arrived.

I'd much rather be back in Andalucía. Ronda felt more like home than anywhere else I've ever lived.

Yes, I guess that´s why they call it New Ulm maybe they were from Ulm but I think you mean my other comment under the Post with the monument.

But anyway I am agreeing in total with you and your feelings for this lovely place here in Andalucía if Ronda or Malaga or whatever I´m feeling at home here since the first minute my feets step on the ground here.

When I have to leave here for some business trips to Cyprus or Germany I´m very sad, and when I´m returning, its like coming home again I never felt the same when returning to my country of birth.

I guess we have to find a way to bring you back to here ?!

That's a well camouflaged toad! I saw my first toad this summer. It was around two inches long and fast. This summer was interesting because the toads and frogs discovered my swimming pool and moved in. If I did night swimming I often had company swimming in the pool with me. It was pretty neat.

Haha, well... I suppose they would like the swimming pool!

I usually see toads at my parents' house, as they hide around the edge of the stairs and wait for the window light to draw insects to them. Frogs, though... We get some tree frogs, but they're hard to find. Most frogs like to be a little closer to the water.

heheh buen paseo has dado si señor :) La última es la que mas me gusta con el maiz

Jajaja – Aquí tenemos mucho maíz. Es fotogénico en ciertas situaciones.

Jajaja seguro! Para una peli de miedo como poco! 😳😁

This photo is clear, clean, and beautiful. picture result is also amazing. Fantastic photography. I like all pictures.

Great photo, love the background

Wonderful capture!! Absolutely stunning work!

Magnificent photos @fotosdenada I'm sorry to hear about those mosquitoes. Your frog image is quite stunning and I can imagine how easy it woud be to miss him as he is camoflagued well amongst the leaves.
