Lady Liberty - A Great American Symbol
On the nighttime harbour cruise through New York one of the main stops is of course the Statue of Liberty. Gifted to the United states by France in 1886, it is a symbol of freedom and recognised around the world. The boat cruise intentionally stops for a few minutes at the statue before carrying on up the hudson so that every one can get a good look and take plenty of pictures.
I remember as an 8 year old climbing the stairs on that thing to get to the crown at the top and look out. It was pretty cool, also quite fun to realise that the statue is completely hollow inside with the exception of the support beams that keep it together and the stairs you have to climb to the top. Actually I think there's an elevator too.

Did you use the ferry at Battery Park? You can catch the one in Liberty Park, but I still like the original one. Oh, yes!! You are right! There is an elevator, but it only goes up to Lady Liberties Feet (however her feet are actually about 3 stories up. Her pedestal is a couple of stories high. However, if you want to go up to the crown (you now need crown tickets) it is almost 400 steps from the base or another almost 200 from where the elevator ends.
You really caught her looking mighty fine that night. She surely is a beautiful sight when you are coming back into the harbor. You mazimized her good looks with the great lighting and superb editing.

Thanks! I was on the circle line ferry. They do a night time tour of the harbour called the 'harbour lights tour'. I'm glad I managed to catch her good side ;) I could have easily spent a few hours on the island trying to get the best possible shot but it wasn't to be on this trip. :)
