Shooter FPV Flight Log 100817 - Bowen Island (Video)

It was not a summer holiday, but the sun was out, our shadows were long, and it felt like summer, hence the track, Kings of Summer by ayokay.

The Alien 5 had suffered from whacking into a sign the day before, but with some zip-ties, she was back together and ready to fly again. There were only a few soft targets wandering the waters edge at low tide. With my Niece and Nephew at my side acting as spotters... we flew around stuff ;) It also marks the monumental occasion of flying under my first bridge.

Bowen Island is a popular day destination for the greater Vancouver area. We took the ferry over from Horseshoe Bay. You can check the schedule here: http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/biva-current.php

Bowen Island was an important summer gathering spot for First Nation People of Canada's West Coast. The Squamish peoples used and occupied the area around Howe Sound including Bowen Island. Areas such as Snug Cove and a few other parts of the island were used as campsites for hunting and gathering trips.

The Terminal Steamship Company took over in 1900 and turned what was originally Nex̱wlélex̱m into Bowen Island, which was infinitely easier to pronounce. For nearly 62 years, one Steam ship company or another would ferry Vancouver's Trendies across the water to get down and party on Bowen Island.

Today Bowen Island is home to some 3,300 full-time residents who either work in the tourism trade or ferry across the water each day to work in down-town Vancouver... there are worse commutes.
