Tpot Contest No. 23 (Evergreen Memories)

This is about two years old!

I was thinking back to one of my happiest moments in life, and I realized it was while I served my country, Nigeria, in another state. I grew up in Lagos and I schooled in Abia, my state of origin, and so I had to be sent somewhere new so I could experience other parts of the country and learn about other cultures and people.

I was sent to Enugu State.

Enugu is hilly and rocky, but those obviously were not what made me happy there, it was the serenity I felt where I lived after the three weeks at the orientation camp.

I was transferred to Nsukka Local Government and for a year that was my home.

Thinking back now, I realize that the sights played a huge role in my happiness; every where I looked, my eyes met something green. Even when we went hiking (that's the picture above), I saw green everywhere. From the algae, to the shrubs, to the thick bushes I steered clear of, everywhere had some form of greenery!

I would later read of how the greenery affected my senses, giving me one of my most fulfilling moments in life.

According to Empowered by Color,

The color green relates to balance and harmony. From a color psychology perspective, it is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart.
From a meaning of colors perspective, green is also the color of growth, the color of spring, of renewal and rebirth. It renews and restores depleted energy. It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living, restoring us back to a sense of well being. This is why there is so much of this relaxing color on the earth, and why we need to keep it that way.
Green is an emotionally positive color, giving us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally. A natural peacemaker, it must avoid the tendency to become a martyr.

Little wonder!

Come, let me take you through my sights while I was in Nsukka, using some of the pictures I took there.

I saw this each time I looked out one of my windows...

That distant path holds lots of memories.

This saw this while passing through the University of Nigeria, Nsukka...

It was planting season, and the Agricultural Studies Students did this. Seeing shoots of green popping out of red earth made me feel as close to creation as is possible. Heaven!

Then, while passing through the shortcuts, I am met with this magnificence!

That tree reminded me of how small I am on the earth, and how smaller still I am in the universe.

The greenery of Nsukka kept me calm and saner that I presently am. I miss it!

So that's a peek into my happy memories. The rest I keep for myself alone, like how I saw... oh never mind.

Just enjoy the greenery.

Wonderful story with such happy memories! I love being outside too. Nature helps me to feel more grounded and connected to Mother Earth. Thanks for sharing :)

Yes @socent. Nature is... Natural. Thanks for reading.

It is amazing that four people shared posts in PYPT about the color green this week! Yours here, as well as one by @yidneth, one by @snook, and another by @bluefinstudios 💚

I like the writing you shared about the color green from the EmpoweredByColor website, and your photos are lovely! Nsukka does appear to be a green place and I am glad you felt serenity there. Besides the greenery, I like the patchwork of color in the roofs seen from your window; I find patterns to be fascinating!

Thanks for joining us, and I hope you will be a regular attendee of PYPT! 😊

Thanks @thekittygirl! Nsukka was peaceful! I guess the roof patterns are additional aesthetics. Thanks for reading and having me on the PYPT show. Looking forward to attending again.
