DEK Photography: The High ISO Black & White Trip
I sometimes grab my camera and wander into the night. I know the photos are going to be crap, because I have to use higher ISO, lower shutter speeds, and I never bring along a tripod, but I love the look of night photos in black and white.
All photos are taken with my Nikon 50mm 1.8G, at ISOs which are usually higher than 1600. The location is Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, the city of Burgas.
This is a local Russian shop. In fact, they've been popping up everywhere. I wonder who prefers Russian candies to Swiss chocolate or conserved fish food in all smells and sizes? I guess at least two people and their infant child (take a look at the bikes).

The next photo is of the local ex-communist building. Constructed to withstand direct bombing from the evil western capitalists, it's been used as a university building in the 90's and is now housing the District Court. A girl is waving to her friends down below, perched on the "Unkown Russian soldier" monument, which is in front of the Court.
This very same monument serves two important purposes. First, to remind people that the communist government liked bending over to Russia (even though there wasn't a single battle fought on Bulgarian territory during WWII, this monument was erected in all its glory), and second, to testify how history can be manipulated for several generations to come. To this day, deluded people come bearing flowers to soldiers who never fought a single battle for their country, but wrecked havoc while passing through to Germany.

Ah, the dreaded high ISO. But look at that creature! The Homo Adverticus.

Part of the city's Main Square. The western capitalists are hard at work! You can see some gym equipment at the top floor of the building, where I often see people running in the late hours of the day. I wonder what they are on - coffee with a drop of high octane gasoline?

Who doesn't love a bit of ice cream after a hard afternoon of riding between beer shops?

You know, it didn't take me long to realize I was heading out of the city. Here's an artistic shot of some bugs, trying to bust a street lamp with their tiny heads.

I shall now use my telekinetic powers to manipulate the continuum and freeze space and time for this sprinkler. Done.

These are the brand new buses of our city. They cost millions, yet the bus fare is only €0.50. How is this possible you ask? Well, the government forces everyone to pay higher taxes, so bus tickets are cheap. Even if you've never used one, you are paying someone's ticket. Genius!

See? I was offered a ride, because I pay but never use the buses. They know it, I know it, almost everyone else doesn't. Aw, the smell of populism in the evening!

I love these tiny buses. It's like I'm in Asia. Like a communist type of Asia, but with a capitalist feel to it. China it is, then!

Relax, babe, it's just a weirdo with a camera. I mean, I can't stalk you if I'm going head on, right?

At the end of my trip I grabbed the tailpipe of this truck and it dragged me back to the center of the city. I told you I don't ride the bus!
