Vintage Photos - Oestreicher (1697-1700)

See the previous post in this series here.

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

This set continues a large batch of slides that originally came from an estate sale and appear to have belonged to a locally well known photographer from the Spokane Washington area named Leo Oestreicher, or perhaps a friend or family member of his. These slides contain some landscape and portrait photos but also a lot of typical snapshot photos. Here's an article on him from 1997 which is the only info I have found on him: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/1997/jan/04/photos-of-a-lifetime-museum-acquisition-of-leo/

The first photo in this set is the most interesting. It shows a "modern" kitchen probably in a model home. The processing date I had recorded was September 1962. I don't think that can be right though...this looks more like perhaps 1972 or so. First because there is a microwave (at least I think that's what it is). There is conflicting info on the interwebs about when these became available. Some sources say 1967 but others say that the first home microwave was sold by Tappan in 1955. In either case, 1962 seems pretty early to see this in an average kitchen. Just below the microwave there is what I first though was a dishwasher. However, I believe it is a trash compactor. These also didn't become common until the 1970s. In any case, I likely misread the date or assigned it to the wrong file.

The rest of the photos had no labels but are also most likely from the late 1960s to early 1970s time frame. The second photo shows an aerial shot of a city I can't identify, the third shows a house and the final shot shows a lake, probably in the Pacific Northwest.

With this set comes an end to this seemingly never-ending batch of slides that are somehow related to a photographer named Leo Oestreicher. That's 1700 slides scanned so far. And there are actually tons more. However, a while back I started scanning slides from a different set and I finally caught up to those. Eventually, I'll get back to this batch.

The entire collection that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.
