West Coast Snow and Sunlit Trees — A Few Days to Look at the World Differently

We don't look up enough, I don't think.

Where I am, snow is one of those things that happens nearly far: it dusts the trees in the distance, highlights the swells and jags of the mountains and creates a perfect, velvety texture as if I were to stretch my arm forever, run the back of my hand against the nap, and ruffle nature itself. Snow is for winter, snow is for the high peaks, snow is NOT for our city proper. It's just not the norm for us, and certainly, not for too many days in a row or too deep. However... what's normal these days, anyhow? This past weekend, we were thoroughly buried in snow under a bluebird, sun-warmed sky. Since being up to my knees in fresh powder is not a situation I often find myself in when I go hiking in the forest behind my house, I took the opportunity to make sure to change my point of view, quite literally. I happened to take a few pictures, too. 🖤

The detailed things, the high up things, the crystalline things, the unnoticed things, the pedestrian things. The things that look brand new with an icy gem-like casing and with a shift in perspective.

For those of you who can step outside into snow easily during the winter, these might not be quite so special for you, but if nothing else I hope seeing this first set from the weekend lets you change your perspective and find a bit of unnoticed beauty too. Don't forget to look up sometimes~

These photos and words are my own work, inspired by travels all over this pretty blue marble of ours. I hope you like them. 🌶️

These are stunning! It's funning, we went on a hike today and while looking up through the trees, I thought...wow...if you ever wanna feel small and come back to reality, look up. So much details in these photos we take for granted! Beautiful photos.

Totally. I look up at the biiiiig tall trees when I'm out hunting for hidden nests (grrr) and I'm just awestruck. It's awesome ♡

one of the best parts of winter! trying to figure out where all the squirrels and birds are nesting so you can come back and watch in the spring~

Yes! I meant my darn chickens BUT I do love finding the other nests too, I found one at eye level last summer in an elderberry bush/tree and got to see such tiny baby birds! they grew up really fast.

So very true! I do my best to always find things to ground me. Whatever's going on, this too shall pass; you are a small an integral part of a wide, ever changing universe. I think I lot of my posts return to this... turning into a broken record!

wow! Stunning photos! :) I heard a lot of nice things about you from @teamsteem. Looking for one of your audio clips... heard you have a beautiful voice!

Can't wait to meet you in Canada! :)

love,
Karen

And that right there is what makes a photographer stand out.

Love the detail in the photos, specially because the nearest thing to snow that I have in my country is probably what builds up around a frozen beer. We always understimate things that are common on our daily life.

Absolutely beautiful images - thank you for sharing them! <3

Hey Crimmi, so lovely to see more of your amazing photography work! You wouldn’t believe it, but we’ve had positive temperatures for a week in Ottawa Andalusia the snow has melted :(

So it’s so nice to see some beautiful snowy pictures to remind me of how beautiful winter can be! I like them all, but I think the shots of the moss on the trees are my favourite :) Thanks for sharing!

Tell me about it! I do like the feeling of spring, but maybe we'll still get some snow to make things fresh again.

Im hoping for one more big snow for the year! On that day, Ill take everything else off my schedule and just take photos for the whole day :)

HOW IS THIS A THING
I mean, Quebec didn't even get snow. I can't wrap my head around it. For us, this really is weird. But, in true Vancouver fashion, it was sunny for two days and we got hit with some rain today and it's already like it never happened...

Excellent photos! There's nothing like a camera to help a person notice things that were always there if they could only have the imagination to see it!

i love how the moss persists, even in winter

Interestingly enough, it was the moss that caught my eyes first in the pictures. That stuff looks pretty healthy.

Love the shots looking up at the trees ♡

(Originally I typed love the shits, just thought I would share that tidbit hahaha)

Nature looks cold and dormant from a far... but look closer and you'll notice the colors of life and the warmth of the sun.

yessss... those little hints of ocher warmth <3

Still don't know how you continue to do it, @crimsonclad! Breathtaking, I mean like knock-the-air-out-of-your-chest photos! Exceptional!!!!

thank you so much. The big secret is mostly that when you tell a tree to stand still and be beautiful, it listens. <3
