Not a Walk in the Park, Shoe Selfie, and Strawberry Fields - [Long Weekend in NYC - Part 10]steemCreated with Sketch.

in #photography7 years ago

The theme is close proximity to the area of NYC where John Lennon was shot dead.

These photos were captured in and around Central Park near/at West 72nd Street and Central Park West, which is the location of the Dakota Apartments where John Lennon was taken from us a little over 36 years ago.

This is also very near the 2.5-acre Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park, just across from the Dakota building. Most everyone we saw, including us, stopped to reflect and take a shoe-selfie on the black-and-white IMAGINE mosaic.

This mosaic was a Lennon memorial gift from the people of the city of Naples, Italy.

And although it was a very cold and windy Saturday, it didn't seem to stop many from braving the weather to run, skate, or catch a pedicab or a horse-drawn carriage.

Central Park is just that kind of place!

Long Weekend in NYC Series

As a quick recap, my wife and I recently took a long weekend and took the train into Manhattan to spend a few nights in the Big Apple and head to the Dawes concert at the Beacon Theater on Friday evening March 10th. The @steemit posts in this series showcase some of our adventures.

Here are links to the previous @steemit posts in this series:

The twin-peak building in the distance is The Beresford at 211 Central Park West, between 81st and 82nd Streets. It was completed in 1929 and a notable list of celebrities have called it home.

It was a nice cold day to bundle up for a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park.

Heading into Central Park for a run at the West 72nd Street entrance.

Pedicab ride, only $239.40 US per hour, such a bargain!!!

So many people are running that it almost looks like an organized race.

The Dakota entrance where John Lennon was gunned down by Mark David Chapman late in the evening on December 8, 1980.

Looking across at the Dakota Apartments from the edge of Central Park. The Dakota is the oldest building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It was built in the 1880s when the area was mostly farmland.

Ornate cast-iron railings of the Dakota.

Of course, many people do enjoy a simple, leisurely stroll through the amazing scenery within the park.
