Puddles, Reflections, and Bryant Park's Spring Revitalization - [Long Weekend in NYC - Part 7]steemCreated with Sketch.

When we stopped at Bryant Park last Friday on a cold and snowy day, it was in the process of being deconstructed in preparation for its Spring 2017 makeover.

The Bank of America Winter Village which consists of a beautiful 170x100-foot ice rink, along with about 125 Holiday Shops are systematically taken apart and readied for storage until the start of the 2017 Holiday season.

The main addition is the renewal of the Bryant Park Lawn which is about the size of a football field and is typically sodded during the end of March.

Excerpt from the The Bryant Park Map+Guide:
A popular sunbathing and lunch destination that draws thousands of users a day, the Bryant Park Lawn is as long as a football field with sod planted anew each spring. Signature events, such as the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival presented by Bank of America, are hosted on the Lawn amid a canyon of skyscrapers. The park’s beloved Lawn occupies 1.1 acres, approximately the size of a football field, and is resodded once each year with grass grown in New Jersey.

And according to this March 23, 2015 Bryant Park Blog entitled Grass Returns to Bryant Park:

  • It took 26 workers 10 hours to complete the dramatic transformation.
  • The sod is comprised of ten percent Kentucky Bluegrass and ninety percent fescue, and comes from a sod farm in New Jersey.
  • 77 pallets of sod await roll-out -- 46,200 square feet in total.
  • Opening for lazy days and bare feet in the first two weeks of May.

We're definitely planning to go back later in the Spring or early Summer for some R&R and a nice carry-in lunch (Whole Foods is right across the street) on the great Bryant Park Lawn!

Long Weekend in NYC Series

As a quick recap, a week ago today my wife and I took a long weekend and took the train into Manhattan to spend a few nights in the Big Apple and head to the Dawes concert at the Beacon Theater on Friday evening. The @steemit posts in this series showcase some of our adventures.

Here are links to the previous @steemit posts in this series:

We chatted for awhile with the gentleman seated in this photo. He lives only a few blocks from Bryant Park and considers it his own backyard! He was enjoying the show, watching the beginnings of the transformation.
