Exploring British Columbia - Campbell River Day Three

in #photography6 years ago

Our group was scheduled to go on a helicopter tour on day three but it was postponed because of weather. We ended up doing it on day six. I can't wait to share that day because it was the highlight of the trip for sure. Instead of flying we had a day to explore on our own. After breakfast we headed to a small lake the locals recommended. The water ended up being some of the calmest I have ever seen. I could definitely see myself setting up camp and sleeping by a fire here in the summer.

After the lake we drove to Elk Falls. This waterfall is located less than 15 minutes from the trail head and can't be overlooked if you're visiting the area. A suspension bridge was built to safely access the viewpoint. The water was a lot stronger than on the first day we visited. The water flow is influenced by several dams further upstream. On the day we went, the dams were opened and allowed a torrential amount of water to flow. We climbed down to a lower viewpoint and held on to the railing as the water crashed hundreds of feet below and rose as mist.

We tried to get to this viewpoint for sunset but unfortunately we missed it by a few minutes. We drove deep into the forest on an old logging road until the heavy snowfall stopped our vehicle. We hiked up the rest of the way as the light began to slip away. Just as the sun dropped below the horizon we reached the viewpoint. Although we didn't make sunset it was still a beautiful time in nature and a peaceful twilight with good friends.

Great shots! Campbell River is super beautiful I haven't spent as much time exploring that part of the island as I should. I hope you made it west from there towards Strathcona Provincial Park and Gold River!

I'm hoping to jump on a ferry across to Quadra Island this summer and check out some of the primo new rock climbing routes that are going up in that region! Loving the Canadian (and island!) presence here on Steem.

I'm hoping to do the exact same thing this summer! Maybe we'll be there at the same time!

Man, this area looks gorgeous! That waterfall is amazing and the colors of the trees and moss are so pretty together. Nice work!

Thanks man! It was so wild being able to see something like that in person. Extremely grateful.

Some really great photography youve posted here, the colours are awesome

What a beautiful place, perfect to get fresh air and relax a little.

Yes, I could have spent days just walking through the trees.

Amazing shots man! That waterfall looks crazy

Great interesting post!!

Loving this BC series mate. So much to explore out here.
