Yachting in Greece Day 2 - Easy In.

in #photography5 years ago

The first night we did not go far from main marina as the day was coming to an end and docked in some small port near Corfu.

The next morning was nice even though we were promised a cloudy weather the day turned out to be nice with air temperatures reaching 28 Celsius and water 25! There was literally no wind so the majority of time we had to go on an engine. Usual speed on an engine is about 5 knots and usually you can go 50% faster with the sails up.

First day burning diesel.

After all traditional rituals i.e. putting up the national flag, and pouring some whiskey to Neptune (not skipping a few gulps ourselves) we started our voyage. This is usually the time when you open up a few cans of beer and the mood is nice with all the adventures ahead of you.

Guys in a good mood and fooling around.

Basically there are too types of trip that you can go to. One is being with your better halves meaning you take ladies on board and the other one (way much different) when there are only guys on board. There are way too many differences to mention but i prefer the latter one. Way much more freedom of self expression, not to mention sailing and suntanning naked on the boat with much more alcohol involved.

Of course that means that all the cooking is done by guys, but it's like that when the team contains both sexes and we prefer ladies chilling out and all food prepared by guys anyway.

Luckily we had an amazing cook on this trip, who has planned all the meals in advance and we only had to help with preparations while all delicious cooking was done by him. I do not know why, but cooks tend to consume largest quantities of alcohol lol

Sea sickness.

When you are traveling with females it is a better idea to take a bigger boat, usually catamaran. It has a flat deck, more spacious premises for partying, separate conveniences for each cabin most of the time and it is said to be rocking less. But that is subjective opinion since it is rocking in a different way.

While yacht is rocking up and down and swaying sideways at a greater amplitude , catamaran is rocking in a way that is hard to explain, like a bowl put on water and i do not like that movement personally. The way it is rocking actually has an impact on sea sickness.

8 out of 10 times it's females that get seasick faster. But if a guy gets seasick it is pronounced much more. If a female is seasick most of the time she will not feel well, but if a guy get's it, he might be feeding the fish for the remainder of the trip. I do not know what the scientific explanation for this is, but maybe guys have a higher threshold for sea sickness, and when it is exceeded the results are much more pronounced.

If you feel that you are getting seasick, try to stay in an upper deck where the horizon or shore line is visible. Usually it helps unless you are the unfortunate one prone to seasickness.

Tip: Before enduring on a long trip on a yacht, try getting on the boat for a few hours or a day if possible somewhere near your living location. If you are prone to seasickness and catch one, your whole vacation will be ruined and might turn out to be a disaster. There are some pills, but I've never see anyone to recover from them fully.

The first day was not very adventurous, we have covered quite a distance on an engine, docked in some small port, had a dinner on the shore and continued our party on the boat till the morning. Few to many whiskeys and sorry neighbors, we just hope you have enjoyed our selection of the music xD

Haha, am sure it's totally different with all guys onboard... :)

I don't think I've been on a leisure yacht, just a couple of trips on some fishing vessels - mostly on work when I was helping some friends doing some fishing trips for some tourists... and not for long durations anyway. Fortunate that I seemed to be fine on the water, I kinda 'move' with the rocking and it seemed ok, fun even! :D A friend was terribly sick tho' - no fun.... poor girl!

Yeah, you don;t need much time to tell if someone is prone to sea sickness. We have a few free spots on a boat this year, so i can invite you for a trip the next time we go :)

Haha, and I missed this... esp. the invite! 😀
That would be so cool.... we'll see... Thanks!

no worries, there is always another trip the next year, so we'll see :)
