Grandma's house reconstruction project. Part 2 - Plumbing.

in #photography5 years ago

Reconstruction does not happen as fast as i had wished so I had to change post naming system.

The first post was called "Day 1" and now it's almost a month as i am living here and trying to sort the things out. Instead, now it will be divided into parts so hence "Part 2".

So i have removed all the rubbish from those small premises and moved down all the walls with the sledge hammer as you can see in this first post.

What i was left with was about 14 square meters of space and an old concrete floor.

It's a small town where everybody knows everybody, but i am probably the least connected guy here. I know nobody. Literally. When i moved in i had no running water so my cousin told there is a guy that used to help out my grandma. I called the guy and he connected my with a plumber.

I got extremely lucky with the guy, he's a 59 years old dude, who has been divorced but is visiting girlfriends even in other countries so there is no age limit for that definitely. I was lucky again, since he has come back after a vacation recently and was free to take my project.

He rolled in with the tools the very next day and started working on plumbing.

In a few days all the plumbing was done and he invited me to come and visit for a barbecue some time. Definitely much more friendly people in smaller towns.

Finally all the plumbing was done, but then i started moving all the rubbish on the floor and discovered that in order to lay solid concrete floor i will need to move all the old "broken floor" if i can call it that way.

You can see all the slabs in the picture above. Once i moved those i could not stop anymore until i have cleared everything to the based concrete pad.

Back in the day, when my grandfather was building the house it was Soviet Union times, and people had money but nothing to buy with it. It was called "deficit" of everything, products, furniture, clothing, green peas, chicken, you name it. One of the rare commodities was cement, so to disassemble the old concrete layer i almost did not even need to use sledgehammer. I could break concrete with bear hands. 20190628_124750.jpg

And as often in the reconstruction business, you find bigger problems as you remove layers :) The old foundation was bent, and there is cellar underneath, the height levels in the room were chaotic and i do not know where to start having in mind i have no knowledge and access to the tools. (I saw guys using lasers on YouTube to determine levels. Lasers what? I would not even know how to use it.)

Initially i was thinking to mix and lay concrete myself, but with all the issues i have encountered, i decided to find somebody that knows their trade. I will have to build up on that floor, and if i fuck up something, that could potentially cost me a lot in the future.

Laying the concrete in Part 3. Also mice and other problems lol

If you got insanely crypto rich and still retained it in this big bear market i will accept donations that will be used for house restoration purposes lol.
For the supporters i will erect an honor wall in the house with their names being mentioned no matter the size of donation. I think that would a cool thing to do by itself :)
