Walter_Botts_Uncle_Sam_1970.jpg
Walter Botts, is the real Uncle Sam. You can see him here where he imitates his poster in an image of 1970 from David Dreiner. Botts was the model for the famous poster, made by J. M. Flagg, with the iconic "I Want You" statement.

At the beginning Flagg used his own face as Uncle Sam, until he was asked to finalise it before WWII. He then decided to use Botts for this model of what we all recognise immediately as American. Botts was chosen as he had "longer arms, longer nose and bushier eyebrows".

In 1984, Whoopi Goldberg was already an established actress and the famous Annie Leibovitz was tasked to portrait her. Inspired by a theater piece she saw from Whoopi in which she was joking to use bleach to clarify her skin, she decided to use milk as a friend told her milk becomes opaque white in picture.

This well articulated and planned picture did not turn out as expected as Whoopi slipped while getting in the bathtub. Leibovitz was fast to capture the moment which resulted in one of her most famous pic.

Oleta Grimes, one of Elvis's teachers, liked Elvis’s musical talent and enrolled the 10y old Elvis in a radio talent contest on October the 3rd.

Elvis surprised everyone by climbing up on a chair while on stage to reach the microphone to sing “Old Shep” in front of several hundred people.

He only won fifth prize.

The next year in order to keep young Elvis away from his bicycle, on which he was constantly getting hurt, his mother bought him a guitar and the rest is history!
