Haven Away from City Life

I am sharing my haven away from work and City life. I live in the suburb and absolutely love spending time in my backyard. After a day of work and commuting around in the City, there is a need to have some peace and quiet. There has to be a work-life balance. I enjoy sitting out back in my patio chair, a cup of DD coffee or iced tea in hand, and simply enjoy the sereneness of it all.
These photographs were taken during the summer time. I am reminded of the scent of fresh-cut grass, the brightness of sunny days, and dreams to be dreamt.
I am an ocean gal. Grew up 10 minutes away from sandy shores and vast blue water. Being around the ocean lightens my heart. For some unknown reason, I am happier simply by being there. There is an inexplicable feeling of calmness and happiness being near the ocean shores. I love the fresh ocean breeze and salty tang in the air. I no longer live near the ocean. I miss it, but life takes you in different directions. Since I don’t live by the shores anymore, one of the must-have list when we went home shopping was to have a pool.
Mind you, I am not a great swimmer. I don’t think I will ever venture beyond the 3 feet mark. I like the view most. The smell of pool water is not quite as refreshing as the ocean air. There is no elemental essence of dirt mixed with salty water that brings to mind that distinct ocean smell. My refreshing breath is of the chlorine smell of the pool. But the clear blue water is close enough to remind me of the ocean I left behind. I am very much at peace sitting there in the quiet. Now and then a poor frog will be found swimming in the pool or a deer wanders into the backyard. The frog is scooped out, of course, so the chlorine water doesn’t kill it. The deer is just a beauty to withhold from my backyard window.
Let’s not forget another beautiful scenery. Flowers in the garden is also a must. I love looking at flowers, but I’m not as aww by flowers as I am with the wonders of the ocean.

I am an "Island Girl", though I have lived the past 43 years in the Canadian Rockies! I don't think we ever lose our yearning for that "elemental essence of dirt mixed with salty water that brings to mind that distinct ocean smell". (So beautifully expressed!)

‘Island girl’! You were surrounded by the ocean. That’s even better! Perhaps it’s because we grew up close to the water. That could explain that profound sense of yearning. Of home. My dream is to move to an island for retirement. I went to Hawaii once and loved it. Perhaps Steemit could make that dream into reality one day? 😉

As for "cheerleading" and positivity, my question becomes how can one NOT be absolutely thrilled by #newbieresteemday?! The support that you and so many others generously pour into us is an absolute gift on this journey! It's a pretty vast and faceless landscape at first but the angels in this group are taking care of us, Minnows! Makes it less formidable and more navigable!

@beeyou what a beautiful home!! :) I absolutely love gardens of all types but wildflowers are my favorite! I'm an ocean girl myself but you cannot beat having your own pool to hop in and out of as you please on hot days!

I love wildflowers too. I've only been in the pool once, lol. I will have to put it to better use this year.

I didn't realize dtube posts the video automatically as it's own blog so I did the card spread/text blog separate thinking I could just add the video in afterwards but I was wrong LOL Asher had to give me the low down on how to do it proper so next week will be better!

thank you @beeyou! next week will be better lol @davemccoy dtube is a fickle beast lol sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't - I don't know why but I've heard a few people complain about it. I've had the same issue and gone back a few hours later and it plays fine ?? lol pray to the dtube god and make a sacrifice ! 😜😂
A pool, (we used to have a house with a pool, not as nice looking as your pool, but a pool none the less. And livingstone daisies, or what look like them, with snapdragons, and lots of other flowers, very nice.
I’m sure you understand the pain of owning a pool too @bashadow. I guess there are pros and cons. We have to put a fence around the pool this year though for my kiddo. It’s too dangerous to leave unfenced. I’m going to have an ugly fence around it this year but safety comes first.
Oh how I wish I had taken more photos with the garden in full bloom. That will change too. Life gets busier and less and less time get spent in the outdoors.
Wow that's really beautiful @beeyou! The pool is awesome; I always wanted one but now have the ocean nearby...funny enough, I just did my entry for this contest and it was about the ocean! Water really has a purifying tendency for me...and I can swim haha The flowers are really beautiful too; what a great place for you to relax and unwind! Cheers:)
Yes, water has the same effect on me. I can sit for hours on a beach and just unwind. It really is soothing. Lucky you with swimming! I nearly dove under when I was in 3 ft of ocean and a big wave came it. I know how to float but just not tread. Lol. I wish I could swim a tad bit better so I can go snorkeling one day.

I remember failing 'treading water' in swimming lessons when I was in grade 3; my first failure on paper...I was devastated :) I'm a pretty strong swimmer now, but boy the ocean currents can be rough. Brian and I had a really scary moment in Cancun a few years back; the current can change so quickly. It's difficult even for a strong swimmer. Geez, I realise I just crushed our 'relaxing' water talk haha
Omgosh how do you have time to do the pool, plant the flowers, raise your infant, be a good wife, and do your job... and still be the most awesome steemian I know???
Must say, it is quite exhausting lounging with my little ones while watching dearest husband clean the pool. 😁 Help is the key word. Grandparents are great babysitters.
