Autumn Dancing: 21 Photos of the Season before 'The Season'

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Scotland is on the cusp of Winter...but the sun still makes an autumnal appearance and Jack Frost has yet to make his presence felt significantly. In spite of early nightfall (it is dark by 4pm) and mostly naked trees, the soft and low-angled sunlight draws out the beauty of the wooded undergrowth and there is still some dancing to be observed.

My ability to capture images is limited by a learning process that is still in its incipient stages, but I do it anyway :). Below is a selection of 21 photographs shot over the past couple of months.

Photos taken with a Nikon D200 + Nikon AF-S 40mm f2.8 MG lens.

Mid October

Shanti, autumnal-coloured Princess of the Woods, takes center stage amidst splashes of fallen leaves and crunchy sticks:

Early-mid November

Season advances as trees immodestly shed their Summer clothing, but some of the berries and thorns are not yet done. A swarm of Flies on Fire dance in sunlight for a second until a gust chases them away before I have time to adjust settings. Shanti ponders it all as shafts of Sun light up holey leaves, and she swivels delicately in the water:

Early December

The grass is no longer 'smokable' and Winter's claws are exposed but the submerged pebbles are still dancing. "You've seen prickly Holly I observe" sez Squirrel, lecturing me from the safety of Height, "Therefore, the time has come!"

Hello @barge and Shanti. Just wanna greet you Happy Holidays!

I'm at a raw vegan and yoga retreat center now and met these cuties lounging at the labyrinth walk 🐱🐶IMG_20181226_115633.jpg

Thanks @wanderlass and I wish you everything good for 2019 and beyond 🔆 🔆 🔆 ...I love that the cat and dogs are cool around each other, wish Shanti would make friends with a cat lol.

Gorgeous photo! The cats at the retreat center has a special relationship. They were found abandoned and one dog acts like a mom to one the kittens. It's amazing to witness 😍

Happy New Year to both of you 😃

what beautiful photos. I liked them all. the photos of shanty. It reminded me of when I was a boy, I had a German shepherd named Duquesa (Duchess). thank's for sharing those photos with us...

Merry christmas

Sounds like nice memories of Duquesa! Shanti is the second GS I've known very well, the other was an old girl called Rhonda, who I knew for the last 8 months of her life. They have such soft fur, such a pleasure to cuddle and spend time with, I find :)

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment...have a great holiday and New Year 🔆

Yes, are very good memories. It was my first pet ever I remember that day- my father told my brother and me that there was a gift in the house, but we had to find it. I don't know why we never look under the bed ... and that's where I started my story with her.

happy new year

Shanti is beautiful @barge and all your photos are amazingly stunning. Shanti looked like she was enjoying herself outdoors :) And the last photo of the squirrel is adorable. But what are those dried branches or leaves that look like spiders, the photo above the pebbles and the Holly? They do look scary.

Thanks Marblely 🔆 , Shanti's in her element when outside and has chased plenty of squirrels, as well as foxes and deer and badgers at night lol. She's never caught any though :)

Not sure what they claws are called, but here's a photo which isn't so close up and maybe not so scary ha ha. I'm guessing it's the skeleton left behind after the petals/leaves have fallen off, with some of the seeds still clinging on.

Aah.. that doesn't look so scary :D

Aawww.. it is nice that you are surrounded by nature and having squirrels, foxes, deer and badgers together! :)

Happy holidays to you @barge :)

Woow beautiful photographs of Autumn... I love the photos of your beautiful dog, and the photographys that are at the end of the post are fantastic shots.. 21 amazing photographs, a big hug @barge

Your pictures are extraordinary, Shanty looks beautiful in the photos!
congratulations!

Thank you kindly, her personality IRL matches :)

Your dog looks beautiful and quite playful too. It must have been fun taking those photos with Shanty.

I love the autumn colors up there and you did capture it in all of its beauty.

Great photos!

Thanks Audrey 🔆 ....yes, it's sheer delight to be out walking with Shanti and I love playing games with her. Although they usually involve her teeth lol, she's very gentle. I'm not her 'human' though, that is the privilege of my flatmate/landlord, who is also a dog-walker by profession. I'm a friend and a BIG fan. After her third 'heat', she went off play for a while, kinda like she'd moved on and 'grown up', but the games are back on again as of last week :). With other dogs it is nothing but play anyway.

Scotland is beautiful in Autumn - the light is so soft and gentle.

Thanks for stopping by 🔆

It's crazy how someone else is her human and not you. I mean, naturally, it should be you, right? Well, I guess he is a professional dog-walker means he knows a little bit more secret to steal a dog's heart? Or maybe connection is something we just can't explain. Lol!

Playful dogs are always fun to be around and are adorable too. I am glad to hear that she is getting her playful vibes back. I hope it stays... And well, less of the teeth. Lol

Merry Christmas!❤

Thanks Audrey, it's all good and she's with her natural human :). I have all the fun and no responsibility as such. I'm the lodger and will move on eventually (nothing lasts forever). But I've known Shanti ever since she moved in, when she was just 4 months old. Although she is without doubt bonded to the DJ (landlord), she and I have developed an excellent friendship and level of complete mutual Trust.

....and a Happy New Year to you Audrey, may it be bright and full of Fulfillment 🔆

You guys have formed an excellent bond, it seems. Friendship and trust is all that matters.

Thank you so much! And the delegation, it is such a pleasant surprise. Sending you tons of love!😘🤗😊

Your photos are awesome, but especially the doggo photographs. Shanti is soooo gorgeous captured by your photography skill, I wish I could have your ability to capture my dogs because they live such a short life.

Congrats for the curie vote :).

Thanks Scrawly, for the kind words and for the curie-connection 🔆 ....part of my secret is having a decent camera lol. Shanti is two years old today and has another 10 years or so. The connection with animals is incredible isn't it - something I never had until August 2014 when I lived with a cat!

I wish you and your dogs well 🔆
