Hello dear Steemians,

heute melde ich mich virtuell aus Lengfurt am Main, das ich oft passiere auf meinem Weg nach Homburg am Main. Diesen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang habe ich vor wenigen Stunden von der Mainbrücke mit Blick auf die Staustufe aufgenommen. Den Sonnenuntergang möchte ich Euch nicht länger vorenthalten.

today I report virtually from Lengfurt am Main (river), which I often pass on my way to Homburg am Main. A few hours ago I took this beautiful sunset from the bridge over the Main with a view of the barrage. I don't want to keep the sunset from you any longer.

Der im Jahre 1102 bereits urkundlich erwähnte Schiffer- und Winzerort Lengfurt hat gut 1700 Einwohner und ist Verwaltungssitz des Markt Triefenstein im Landkreis Main-Spessart. Den Namen verdankt es der Furt, die dem Ort bis zum Bau der ersten Mainbrücke im Jahre 1846 überregionale Bedeutung verlieh.

Lengfurt, which was already mentioned in a document in 1102, has over 1700 inhabitants and is the administrative centre of Markt Triefenstein in the district of Main-Spessart. It owes its name to the ford, which gave it supra-regional importance until the construction of the first bridge over the Main in 1846.

Eine Sehenswürdigkeit Lengfurts ist die Pfarrkirche St. Jakobus der Ältere.

One of Lengfurt's sights is the parish church of St. James the Elder.

Ein wesentlicher Arbeitgeber ist seit Jahrzehnten das Zementwerk, das 1901 in Betrieb ging - direkt neben dem Homburger Kallmuth gelegen, eine beeindruckende Anlage mit einem riesigen Steinbruchareal.

A major employer for decades has been the cement plant, which went into operation in 1901 - located directly next to Homburg's Kallmuth, an impressive plant with a huge quarry area.

Interessant ist auch, daß der große Napoleon Bonaparte den Ort dreimal passierte und am 13. Mai 1812 sogar dort nächtigte.

Auf Grund der geographischen Lage fällt in Lengfurt so gut wie nie Schnee, weil alles etwas weiter westlich im Spessart abregnet. Direkt am Main gelegen begünstigt der häufige nächtliche Nebel zudem den Weinbau.

Due to its geographical location, snow hardly ever falls in Lengfurt, because everything rains a little further west in the Spessart (forest). Directly on the Main River, the frequent fog at night also favours viticulture.
