Create Magical Photos With This Tips On Food Photography Angles

in #photography6 years ago

Photos of food can easily be less pleasing to the eye if they are shot at the wrong angle. Here I offer you some tips and tricks that will make your photos of food stand out from the rest of the photos. Food photography is fun and one does not walk away from the photo shooting hungry as it usually happens to photographers who are working on the field and have to grab a bite to eat after they have finished their work :)

Diagonal position of object

Food on this photo was positioned diagonally while the camera was not tilted. Camera was placed a little bit in front and a little bit above the object in a manner that the object stretches from one corner to the other.

Front shot

When doing a front shot of the of the food the camera needs to positioned at the height of the food and a little bit in front of it.

Camera tilted to the right

To get a good tilted shot of food you want to place your camera in front of the food and about 20 inches above the food. Tilt your camera slightly to the right according to what looks good to you.

Shot from the top

When doing a shot from the top the camera needs to be positioned above the object aiming at 90 degrees down toward the product. Shot from top is generally pleasing to the eye because it creates a different perspective of the object.

Close up

When doing a close up, zoom the lense to position where the food takes majority of the photo. With close up it is usual to set aperture low from F2.5 to F3.2 to blur out the background. This will make sure the main object stands out and the background does not distract the eye. The aperture should not be to low to make sure that the object is not blurred also. Play around with aperture to get the best photo which you find pleasing to the eye.

Close up can be done shooting from top, from front or with the camera tilted slightly to left or right.
