It's in the eyes...

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

The mythical Barong is the main character in the eponymous dance drama, one of the iconic must-see items when visiting Bali.

Depicting the eternal fight between good and evil, the event is a myriad of colours and mystical wonder of traditional gamelan music & dance, with many masked characters telling the story.

What intrigues me when watching one of these dance dramas of Bali, is the masks used - the Barong dance drama, for example, sees various characters in masks and others with heavy face make-up!

This is one of them.

powerfull isn't it?
It called Rangda, the evil side of the drama

Ahaaaa... this is Rangda! There were another two that I did not know...
Thank you! :)

This is truly remarkable... And it is in the eyes. I could imagine that this Festival is very interesting. Is it yearly? Great photography.

Thank you very much, Janelle! :)
Well, it is actually a very well-known dance-drama that is recommended to all visitors to Bali, and it is held year-round, several times a day, and at various iconic spots. In fact, when we were there, not only visitors and foreigners were there, but lots of school groups came as it was the Indonesian Independence Day!

That sounds pretty spectacular! Thanks for explaining more!

You're most welcome! :)
