📷 The Back Road to Hana [EN/DE]

The famous road to Hana is one of the main attractions of the Hawaiian island of Maui and driving it is probably an essential activity of every visitor who wants to spend more than just a beach holiday there. Many tourists make the mistake of driving back the same route through the jungle after arriving in Hana. What they miss is a beautiful, spacious landscape that differs from the rest of the island.
Die berühmte Road to Hana ist eine der Hauptattraktionen der hawaiianischen Insel Maui und wohl fixer Bestandteil eines jeden Besuchers, der dort nicht nur einen reinen Strandurlaub verbringen will. Viele Touristen machen den Fehler, nach ihrer Ankunft in Hana, wieder die gleiche Strecke durch den Dschungel zurückzufahren. Was sie dabei verpassen, ist eine wunderschöne, weitläufige Landschaft, die sich deutlich vom Rest der Insel unterscheidet.

The vegetation decreases significantly as this region is in the rain shadow of the huge Haleakala volcano. Due to the very poor road conditions on this section of the route, the car rental companies will tell you that driving can only be at your own risk. But from my personal experience I can assure you that the track is easily accessible in good weather conditions if you drive slowly and carefully. So for me personally, it was worth the risk!
Die Vegetation nimmt deutlich ab, da sich diese Region im Regenschatten des gewaltigen Haleakala Vulkans befindet. Aufgrund der sehr schlechten Straßenverhältnisse auf diesem Streckenabschnitt, werden euch die Mietwagenanbieter sagen, dass das Befahren nur auf eigenes Risiko erfolgen kann. Aus meiner persönlichen Erfahrung kann ich euch aber versichern, dass die Strecke bei guten Wetterverhältnissen problemlos befahrbar ist, wenn man es langsam und vorsichtig angeht. Für mich persönlich war es also das Risiko wert!

Love the photo. I have recently trying to talk my wife into taking a trip to Hawaii to see the volcanoes. Did you get a chance to see any of the other Islands? Is Mauhi the place to go?

Thank you! :-) Unfortunately I had only enough time for Oahu and Maui. Was a tough decission for me to choose between Maui and Big Island, if you have the time, you should visit both, but Maui I can definitely reccomend!
