The Lone Pine

in #photofeed6 years ago

It's been a long time since I drank anything other than boozy winter warmers, so for this #BeerSaturday, I wanted to diverge from the regular porters and stouts. Well, at least a bit - today's beer is still boozy with its 6.5% ABV. I am presenting you the one and only Canadian Lone Pine - an India Pale Ale beer "brewed with skilled hands and passionate hearts". The latter sounds a bit cheesy if you ask me. @countrygirl?

Sawdust City Lone Pine ~ Imported all the way from Gravenhurst, Canada ~ 473 ml - $5.60 ~ 6.5% alc/vol ~ The first canned beer that I am reviewing on Steemit

To spice things up a bit, I also recorded a video of me taking pictures and notes of the beer.

The Lone Pine pours dirty blonde with a big white head, which looks as dense as my beard. It is one of the most beautiful beer foams my eyes have seen, and I literally spent 2 minutes taking pictures of it from different angles.

This one smells fresh, and you can tell straight away that it's pumped with grapefruit and pine (obviously) hops. Flavour-wise, it starts off strong - piney and hoppy - but soon after, it turns into something unrecognizable and bland. It leaves me with a decent and long-lasting grapefruitish aftertaste. I expected more...

The Lone Pine is good but not excellent, which means that it's kind of overpriced for what it is. $5.60 is quite a lot even for a 473 ml can. 3.4 out of 5 stars.

Cheers, and thank you for reading!

Dan the beer man.

Above all, we really need to appreciate the continuous effort you put in your posts. :)

P:S - You have really nice veins.

Ema, I believe that's the weirdest compliment I've ever received 😁😁

You can count on me for obscure compliments.

As long as it leaves you smiling and happy,my job is done. :)

Haha, it did make me laugh out loud :) Good job! 😁

Are you on discord @szuri?

And your nickname is...? :) Mine is irreverent-dan#4220

I have sent you a message ^^

Man, beerwise, I am so looking forward to be back in Germany. Nepal is just the wrong place for beer. You are teasing me with each post :D I am going to send you some bottles from my friends private brewery :)

Haha, I feel you, man! And now that you said that, I so look forward to you being back in Berlin 😂 Sending me some beer would be the coolest thing ever!

The video is so fun! And great photos & storytelling as always, my friend.

Of course the only beverage I’ll touch with a head like that is a chocolate egg cream. 😄

To be honest, this head is nowhere near as good looking as the beer head 😁

Thank you, Lisa!

Ah...we will have to agree to disagree on this one. 😄

Aw Dan.

"brewed with skilled hands and passionate hearts". The latter sounds a bit cheesy if you ask me. @countrygirl?

Yes, total cheese....I wouldn't buy it just because of that. :)

Have you tried Creemore Springs? No preservatives in it. It's the Lager I am suggesting you might enjoy. It's boozy as you say. I've had it a few times years ago and in the summer I crave it sometimes but never end up getting a bottle. It's pricey as well.

You are a serious beer taster that is for sure! Dan the beer man is a great name for you. That's your lane now :)

PS - great photos and video !

PPS - Gravenhurst....spent many many summers there. Beautiful country.

I haven't, I don't think I ever will unless I come to Canada :) These are all the Canadians beers that I can buy here: http://100beers.bg/by-country/canada

Did you know that when I was working at the Mexican restaurant in Denmark, they used to call me "Dan the sandwich man"? 😂

Thank you, Deb! I am yet to search the net for some photos of Gravenhurst.

Sandwich Man? At a Mexican joint?!? That’s paramount to sacrilege. Mexican sandwiches are called tortas, son 🇲🇽

Dan the Boozy Beer & Torta Man! 😉

No, the sandwiches weren't Mexican. They were the typical Bulgarian "принцеси с шунка и кашкавал" and the Danes were dying to eat them :D

Head. Spinning. 😄

As I mentioned before I do not drink beer, but enjoy your blog about it. At least I have a glimpse what is all fuss about, believe it or not I tasted it only once in my life, didn’t like it and never had a sip again. I know that it is uneducated of me but had no clue that beers have aromas and flavours 🤫. Great post and photos...I liked time lapse the most!

Hey Di, the first time I tried beer communist pilsner) a couple of decades ago, I was absolutely sure that I will never have another sip 😁 But gradually, I started to like it.

Thank you so much! I must experiment more often with video :)

Love the two pines and the 'wicked witch from the west' shades of green on the can. Did you use the colour wand? Fantastic video too.

And you're a Mollydooker? Just in case you don't know what a Mollydooker is: Mollydooker. Apart from me, you're in such great company. Like Leonardo da Vinci. 🙏

Mollydooker 😂 Such a funny word! I can actually write with both hands because back in the 80s, it was widely accepted here that writing with the left hand is simply wrong. Okay, I am exaggerating a bit, but in the early grades at school, they tried to convert me into the opposite of Mollydooker.

I almost always use the wand :) Glad that you liked them, Ally, and thank you for stopping by :)

Nice color, but a bit foamier than I'd expect. Really like those first two photos! Love the cell phone-on-a-tripod.

Canadian, eh? (See what I did there?) We get some Canadian brews here in Minnesota, but Manitoba's right across the border :-)

I've got to ask... Do they import Budweiser there? They had it in Spain and, well, it's cheap and gross. My opinion, of course, anyway.

I like foamy beers, Mark, that's why I was so impressed with this one :) Yes, we have both the American and the Czech Budweiser, and I gotta say that I much prefer the Czech one. By the way, the 500ml bottles of the Czech Budweiser are made in Bulgaria.

Thanks for your comment! :)

My dad brews at home and, occasionally, a rogue yeast will get into a bottle or two and replace the dominant strain. He's gotten a lot better at preventing it, but the results are... spectacular! It can create a skunky smelling beer, of course, but the most impressive is the pressure and foam. One time, I opened a bottle and it shot foam out the top until there was only about a third of the "liquid" beer left in the bottle... You probably don't like them that foamy, though :-)

As for the cans v bottles debate, it's sort of like the bottles vs boxes for wine. Boxes are superior in some ways, but they don't have the same aesthetic or experience as a bottle does. When it comes to beer, though, there's no arguing that it's best from the tap!

Haha, that's way too foamy! I remember opening a well-shaken soda bottle once, and it literally exploded in my face :D

Maybe you are right that it's more about the experience of drinking from a bottle :)

Well, he's gotten better, but I still get a bottle like that once in awhile. Always best to open them over the sink, just in case!

Great photos! Is the first photo in the post also with the Xperia? If so, how does it get such great bokeh?

Too bad the beer was a little bland

Cheers! 🍻

Thanks a lot, @beer47! No, the first one is taken with my Lumix & the Lensbaby, which produces some outstanding bokeh :) The Xperia is nowhere near being as capable when it comes to image quality and bokeh.

Cheers!

Amazing shots as always, no winter warmers down here in Australia, all summer quenchers for us at the moment, another 35 degree days expected again today.

Thank you, Harvey! Not that I hate winters, but I look so much forward to those warmer spring days :) Enjoy your Sunday!

Thats a great photo. I mean the first one in the snowCan be the right one for advertisement :) Love the photos, thank you for sharing these lovely moments. Enjoy your weekend!

Haha, I actually uploaded it to Instagram and tagged the brewery :) Who knows, maybe one day I'll attract the interest of some craft breweries, and they'll start sending me beers for free. Thanks for your comment, @hanen, I am happy that you liked them :) Enjoy your Sunday!

That is a good idea... A group of friends and I won a chilli cook-off that was for Charity back in October. We tagged our local meat market on Facebook, hope next time we get a discount.

A chilli cook-off? That sounds interesting! What did you cook?

Fingers crossed :)

We kept our chilli simple and used smoked sausage and ground beef. There was about 60 other teams and most were doing crazy things to their chilli. I didn't do the actual cooking. I was the sample cup filler guy.

Yummy! Sometimes, keeping it simple is best :)

Thats a good idea! I wish you success with that :)
