If you’ve ever seen the film I Robot, you will more than likely have a grip on what we refer to as AI (artificial intelligence). The rise of technology - thinking for itself and making executive decisions without human intervention. In the end the robots decide to take on the human race in a bid to take over the world, but thankfully Will Smith and the absolute weapon that is Shia LeBouf are both there to save the day.

Generally this is how we associate artificial intelligence. Advanced robots and technology making decisions and learning without our help. We see it outside of films; Robots in Japan playing football against each other, and Siri on iphone - constantly gathering new information each day to get smarter.

Technically speaking, the definition of artificial is this:

“Made or produced by human beings rather than occurring naturally, especially as a copy of something natural.”

Now I like to think I can apply any given circumstance to a philosophy of life (the reality is infact quite debatable) but with recent events, and the way society is especially in the western world, I began to realise how much correlation there is between robotic intelligence alongside our own.

When we come into this world, we are instantly programmed on how we should live our lives

We are told how to think and what to say through society. We learn a language to communicate and a system of rules to play the game of life by. Then we begin to think in that language and ask ourselves if our actions conform to society. Soon enough, we question even the smallest things we have done or are going to do – sometimes to a point of overthinking.

But this is not the REAL us. We are not born thinkers, we are born emotional and instinctive creatures. That is our natural way. When we breathe, we do not consciously think to breathe, it is our natural instinct to do so, just as it is to beat our own heart.

Instinctive intelligence overshadowed by artificial intelligence

Remember growing up as a kid? When youre closest idea of worry was how long til it went dark and you would have to leave youre mates to go home for dinner. Maybe its not a coincidence for us to have felt so much more freedom at a younger age. Of course you can say when youre that young you have no responsibilities. But if that is the case, and worry only occurs when we are responsible, why do we worry about things that are completely out of our control?

Everything we have learned on our journey through life has played a part in who we are today. But when you question how much you have learned through natural instinct, opposed to what you have been taught and told to learn, it asks the question:

Is our intelligence just as artificial?
