One of the harder things to overcome is the understanding of our own perception and how it impacts our own views. We often spend so much time defending our own positions and opinions that we miss the point of what is being discussed. This can lead to digressions and arguing over semantics as opposed to the governing factor being discussed.
This is something which can be observed on any given day on a number of platforms including this one. Conversations on various topics quickly cascade into semantics and end up falling on personal differences.
A go to in many instances is differentiating between countries and which is “better”, becoming a point of nationalism and feelings of patriotism. The irony in this is that we are all being governed by systems which exploit us for all we are worth, for many of us it’s the reason we are even here in the first place.
Here we have the hooman condition intervening in our cognitive thought patterns. Even though we know our governments are abusing us we feel the need to defend “our own one” over others…. Because even though we are getting screwed over, we have to make sure people know “My country” (Ingroup) is the getting screwed the least compared to “Your country” (Outgroup) and that means "We are the best" right?
This is just one example, but there are many out there which follow the same kinds of patterns, the definition of an outgroup and an ingroup, exaggeration of negative traits of the outgroup, exaggeration of positive traits in the ingroup, this is text book Social Identity Theory.
I have tried many a time in the past to construct an analogy which will work effectively to describe the situation, I think this one is about as good as it gets for now. No matter the type of screw you are… you’re still getting screwed!!! Look at the diagram below, there are a number of different kinds of heads on screws:
Now imagine every one of them is a different country, race, sex or any other kind of demographic we have had defined and forced upon us in our indoctrination into the governing systems in place. No matter how you look at it, which ones you like the best or identify with…. It makes no difference. The purpose of a screw is to get screwed and this is what is happening to ALL OF US.
Now we can continue to follow these patterns, argue semantics, remain divided, to vote for worthless leaders, be influenced by the illusion of choice, etc. but this will mean that we will continue to make the same errors and construct the exact same systems we despise. If we are to make any headway in the evolution of mankind we will have to begin leaving these petty debates behind us, i mean is it really a competition as to who is getting abused the least ? is winning that argument really a victory?
We need to maintain focus on the larger picture, if we want to NOT be screwed over we need to stop being screws, stop differentiation, division, social identity theory thinking. Stop doing what they want us to do and become better than the screws they see us as. How can we expect to have different results if we continue to do the same thing over and over again, is this not what is described as insanity?
The harsh reality is that we are all bound by similar kinds of rules, no matter who we are or where we are. We all serve similar masters who have no concern for our best interests. We have been conditioned to accept our rulers words and hold them with enough esteem to defend them as much as we despise them, we are a self correcting system which perpetuates the garbage we are fed, it is up to us to break the cycle.
Regardless of our perceived differences we are all on the same boat, and its sinking. Arguing over who has the best seat on a sinking ship is an effort in futility. The sooner we recognize the enemy is not one another but the governing systems that rule us and those which enforce it, the sooner we can take steps to move toward a better tomorrow for all of mankind. Because right now how many of us can truly say "I am free" ?

I like the screw analogy - good one.
Not only are we all screwed, most people don't even know why they hold certain believes or loyalty to group X (that includes political, religious, economic, etc.). They rush to challenge others, but never challenge themselves.
its probably the best analogy for the situation i have been able to put together.... if peeps don't get it after this i dunno what else to say, lolz.
Yes we are so eager to defend our dictated position, this is due to the indoctrination and decades of conditioning to believe what we are told. this influence comes from all areas of life. Parents, family , friend, gov. , policing, and all the systems in place.
This image covers some of the items which are forced upon us but it can be anything which can be seen or felt which defines us. It can be a hard battle to acknowledge these issues but it is something we must do along the path to becoming more woke. If we spend time in self reflection in meditation we can find these nuggets of truth and begin to advance our understanding of the situation we are in and ultimately make the positive changes we need in our lives to become more congruent to the self.
Of course, our self is the only one who we can change.

As George Carlin famously said, it's a small club, and you aren't in it.
