Where Songs Are Immortalized: Remembering George Canseco one of the Classic Composers of PH

in #philippines7 years ago

I am browsing my feed to see what will make me inspired to write something on my story until I saw a post about the birth date of the late George Canseco. He was born on the 23rd of April 1934 in Naic Cavite.

I had been a huge fan of OPM or what they called Original Pilipino Music and it is in my roots and if you will be checking on my blogs you will know that I do love our native tongue because I usually write on that language. Sometimes I do use English too to practice my writing skills since I am not that confident in it.

Moving forward the songs of Mr. George Canseco has been immortalized for me because some of them are still being sung on the radio, the artist will just add a flavor or a twist of their own.

For students in the Philippines do know the song "Ako ay Pilipino" sang by Ms. Kuh Ledesma. This one is composed of no other than Mr. George Canseco and he was commissioned to write this by the former First Lady Imelda Marcos. I still remember the lyrics of the song as it is always been sang multiple times during flag ceremony in my elementary and high school days after the National Anthem "Lupang Hinirang" if you are not familiar with it here's a video from youtube where you can listen to it.

I myself didn't even care about who the composer is of that song before and I was amazed that he is that did it.

But he is not only famous for those songs, actually, he is more popular on the ballad songs which will resonate in your heart. I am somehow corny there but I really do admire him as a composer because of the songs that he did. One of my favorite work from him is "Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas" which was sung by no other than Ate Shawie ( o diba close lang) the Mega Star Sharon Cuneta.

I sang this song multiple times and I am still having some chills when I sing this song. ( Not because of my singing voice but because of the lyrics it is so beautiful and full of emotions and love)

@ellebravo and I have a duet of this song a while back but we didn't upload it because of the quality of the video plus the audio's not good.

As per the article that I read, Mr. Canseco didn't even go into formal schooling for music. He learned by himself on learning the piano and reading the notes at an early age. I think it was a gift from God that he is able to create those wonderful love songs. Another one that I do like is "Ngayon at Kailanman" which is sang by Basil Valdez it is a somehow a song being sung during the wedding and it is a promise song to their loved one.

One of the best thing about the old era is the hardships that you will need to accomplishj before you can make your own music. You will need to make sure that what you will be able to produce is a quality content to last long. A lot of the old songs are still being sang by other people especially in the karaoke sessions and less people are aware of the new music or maybe they do not even care at all just like me. My playlist will still be some old songs except the Bing Rodrigo classics which I find really unpleasant to my ears because #1 it is being used and abused as one of the training songs if the alcoholic guys are singing in the videoke.

Am I still making sense? I think I am not hahaha, anyhow I am just really glad that I was able to know more about the composer that I do like and moving forward I may find time to learn who are the other composers of my favorite songs as they have mentioned in the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers or FILSCAP without Music them there's no sounds that we will enjoy.

Sort:

Classic OPM with so much passion, with meaningful music every lines speaks haha If I was born in that era.

Hello there @tpkidkai! You will be featured in the daily Steem dump "featured post" for sharing with us knowledge about Philippine music history. As part of being chosen you will be given the chance to recommend to us 1-2 Steem blog-post that is worth being featured in our article.

Thanks @steemdump!

With regards to the "featured post" I think this one needs exposure a post created by no other than the man himself @guri-gure about spoilers for the "Avengers Infinity War" Thanos Demands Your Silence

Then for the other one if I can nominate a Tagalog works I'll go with this author @johnpd
