My Nominations for the PHC Top 3 Monthly Contest - Board Games
Another month, another wicked awesomesauce contest from the Power House Creatives Top 3 team! This time around, we're picking our favorite Board Games. First, here are the deets from the official contest post, PHC Top 3 Monthly Contest July: Share Your Top 3 To Win A Steem Prize
Open up the cabinet and blow off the dust, we are breaking out the board games for the topic this month! Get ready to duke it out for your favorite game piece (we all had that lucky one, right?) and clear off the table for a night of fun. Perhaps it was a family tradition to come together at the end of the day, maybe a monthly date with friends, or getting the big guns out whilst the stereo system was playing dodgy Christmas songs! However it happened, we want to know, so share your top 3 favorite board games that you couldn’t resist bringing to the table!
While the past few rounds I've been including related gifs, because...

...this time I decided to use a couple of old school commercials for each game. I had a blast searching for them, and I hope they bring back as many happy memories for you as they did for me!
Now, without further ado, here are my 3 nominations for the PHC Top 3 Monthly Contest - Board Games contest, in no particular order...
Nomination 1 - Trouble
REASON
As a child in the 60s and 70s, I seem to recall that telling someone "You're in troooob...buuuullll" was usually met with the response, "You said urine, you're a potty mouth." But it was SO much fun to say, and this game was amazeballs especially for that reason! Plus, I swear that popping this little plastic dome in the center of the board is what led so many of us to be obsessed with bubble-wrap as adults!
1960s commercial (fun fact - I remember we used to chant, "Pop the six and you move twice" whenever it appeared)
1990s commercial ("It's fun getting into trou-ble" has to be one of the best kids commercial line ever!)
Nomination 2 - Operation
REASON
This game was so stressful, yet so fun! This joy-buzzer-turned-into-a-game-and-excuse-to-shriek was almost more fun to lose (and get zapped) than to win (with your nerves of steel...LOL). I loved this torturous game so much I even bought it for my kidlets when they were little, and they were as traumatized enjoyed it as much as hubby & I did as kids!
And for those of you wondering (like I did at first, when it first came to mind) if this counts as a board game, I looked it up and on the Board Games Galore Wikia, it's listed as, "Electronic, 1960s board games, Hasbro"
1970s black & white commercial (I can't count how many times I said, "HA! HA! HA!" after taking out any of the pieces!)
1970s commercial (wonder if this, "Butterfingers" kid was the inspiration for Bart Simpson...? 😂)
Nomination 3 - Ouija
REASON
I remember at some point in the late 60s/early 70s, driving my with my father through Beverly, MA and going past the Parker Brothers building. I vaguely recall a conversation where he told me about the fact that they were the ones who made the Ouija board game, and how it was supposed to be fun like Candy Land (side note - check out this Candy Land commercial that features Ralphie from A Christmas Story - too cute!). I have a sneaking suspicion, knowing that I was always "the spooky child" and given the fact I had older siblings (six and eight years older) who seemed to think making me scream the best game ever (and I can't say that they were wrong...😂 ) that Dad was trying to logic away some fear I was having. While it didn't technically work, he did have me daydreaming of working at Parker Brothers some day as a game tester! Talk about a dream job for a kid!
1987 commercial ("Isn't it...?" LMAO!)
Hope you enjoyed my selections, and thanks again for putting these contests together, Power House Creatives Top 3! Best of luck to everyone entering - I can't wait to see what games everyone else picks out!

I thought I would see Ouija pop up somewhere :D I played that game as well and yes, definitely a game of "You are moving it". Strange game indeed.
Operation, I couldn't get myself to play anymore after the first dozen times I played. A game of steady hands and patience wasn't my thing. It's a game that can tell you your future! You will not be the next doctor XD
Also, trouble, the fun I had with that game was just putting all the thingies on my fingers and smashing the heck out of the dice popper. I didn't have many friends as a kid. Can you tell? :P
Great choices for this round ;)
I figured with my witchy reputation, I had to represent the spirit board! 😊
LOL! Maybe that was the point of the game - to discourage kids from wanting to do to medical school.
It sounds like you played Trouble much like me and my younger sister (and our game play wasn't very friendly either... 😉🤣
And thanks so much, @foxyspirit!
Haha! Ya we played exactly that way. Not friendly at all 🤣🤣

Love it Traci! Those retro adverts are so corny but I'd definitely be pressing that dice bubble thing all day long with Trouble!
Operation is a classic one and great fun with the family. Just remember to breathe once you've actually removed the piece haha!
Those Ouija boards look like they'd be good fun as well. I've played with one once but the glass only moved to one letter but have seen full on "sessions" going on before. Freaky stuff!
Good luck in the contest and thanks for entering!

Thanks for these awesome nominations Traci! Good luck for the contest!
That bubble thing was TOTALLY addictive - especially when you had a sibling yelling at you to stop! At least, that's what I've heard.... 😉😊
And thanks again!
I enjoyed the old commercials. Games back then was really fun and life was less complicated. That trouble game looks fun but I don't think the kids these days would give it a try as technology has taken oven. So hard to peel them off their phones nowadays.

I'd agree to a point (about kids these days) but I know there are some (like ours) who enjoy the occasional family game night. It's definitely not as popular as it used to be, but I'm not giving up hope (or my games...LOL!). And glad you enjoyed, @watersnake101! 😊
Awesome post @traciyork
I love the old adverts. Well done for finding them.
Operation is still going strong. My father has just bought it for my nieces. They love it. My version is tucked away in my old bedroom. It's got to be 40 years old now.
Trouble/Frustration (UK) is awesome and is one of my favourite games ever. Simple but holds your attention. The pop-o-matic sound has stayed in my head until this day.
I cannot believe that a ouija board was packaged as a kids board game! That's awesome and a bit hilarious.
Don't forget that, as of this month, you can earn extra SBI by referring a friend to the contest.
Good luck.
Gaz
Thank you so much, @cheese4ead! And I'm so glad I stumbled on to them as well (other than slightly regretting how much time I spent watching a bunch of them on the interwebz...LOL).
So glad to hear the Operation game is still a thing!
And yep, once you get that sound in your brain, it's there for life.
There are definitely some games out there that are questionable choices for kids. When I was perusing them the other day, I recall some old B&W ads for games that had mechanical parts to them (can't recall the names now) that looked like a guaranteed trip to the hospital!
Thanks for the reminder, and the good wishes, Gaz! 😊
@traciyork - Excellent choices and love the commercials! You are always so dang innovative. I'm glad I posted my entry before I read yours, or I probably would have been so mesmerized by yours, I wouldn't have entered.
Aww, you're too kind, @blueeyes8960! Love your choices too - in fact, as I said in my reply to you, we almost both had "Sorry" on our lists!
Haha those trouble adverts though! And had to laugh at "urine", that tickled me 😁 the little dice bubble thing is probably something I'd be pushing all day long, click click! It looks like a fun game though but never played it.
Operation is still going strong I believe, another one I never played but there were still adverts for it in the 90s and have seen it at a few friends houses. Ha. Ha. HA!
Haha Ouija boards look like such good fun. I reckon the best time to play on them would be Halloween time as that's when the real spooky stuff comes out!
Thanks for these awesome nominations Traci! Good luck for the contest!

Yeah, I still point it out whenever our kids (who are now adults) say either, "You're in" or "Under where?" or "Duty"... and they appreciate it
when I laugh hysterically like I'm five years oldevery time...I belong to a number of witchy groups (go figure) on social media, and whenever someone talks about the "dark and sinister beginnings of the Ouija board" I can't help but think, "You know, Beverly, MA (where the original company was located) isn't that bad.... it's Lynn, MA you gotta watch out for...." 😉 🤣
(for those non- New Englanders, there's a saying that goes, "Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin. You never come out the way you went in.")
Thanks so much in return for your awesomesauce comment and being part of the team doing this wicked awesomesauce contest!
Hahaha I'm sure they do appreciate the laughing maniacally like a little kid every time 😁
I think a lot of rival towns have a saying about the other but that's a funny little poem 😀
Stay awesome Traci!

I think I'll cheer up, I hope I'm on time before the contest ends. I've been a little limited in time these last few days!
We'll keep a look out for your post for sure! Looking forward to reading your choices :)

It's a wicked trippy thing, @fmbs25! If you do, you should write a post about your experience - bet that would be fun too. 😊
