Petals Contests - Flowers - Wiper's bugloss(Iarba Sarpelui, romanian name)(Echium vulgare)
Wiper's bogloss is a bi-annual herbaceous plant of the Boraginaceae family, which grows up to a height of 1 m. It is more common in abandoned places, on roadsides or railroad tracks, or can be cultivated as an ornamental plant . It is a mellifera species with therapeutic value.
The aerial part of the plant with flowers contains potassium, calcium, tannin, alkaloids, allantoin, resins, mucilages, choline - that's why it has a good antibiotic, antiseptic, astringent, expectorant, emollient, depurative, diuretic, healing effect.
This plant has an unusual feature, the nectar inside the flower is protected from vaporization or washing when it's hot or when it's raining.
Unlike most plants that produce nectar for a short period of time, Echium vulgare produces nectar throughout the day.
