in #personalstory7 years ago

The trainers development camp which was organized by the leading International students organization in the world - IPSF (International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation) in collaboration with Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students with the objective to train a set of leaders capable of organizing and delivering an effective training sessions in any field and at any circumstance. The training employed active learning strategy, interactive sessions, various activities, ice-breakers, use of visuals etc.

The camp started on 25th of June, 2017 with the arrival of delegates and proceeded by some team building exercise. The camp started proper on 26th of June, 2017 with a session on why you have to be a trainer and how to be an effective one at that. The most important skill taught is to know your audience and deliver your session accordingly. The session also described the difference between training adults and children and what each set required. The second session of the day saw us through stage performance, body language and sandwich feedback model.

Day 2 - Session 1

Different facilitation style, tools and challenges to facilitation, facilitation grid and sitting patterns for effective facilitation was taught. The group facilitation process was explained thoroughly and the people (participants being trained) was explained by the FIRO model developed by Will Shutz.

The second session took the participants through Training design which includes Needs analysis, learning goals, the different personalities in a training session, 4-matrix learning process, session outlines, designing a schedule and session concepts.

The third session was based on Training Needs Analysis (TNA), who conducts TNA and why conduct a TNA and how to conduct a TNA using the ADDIE model.

Day 3 - First session
This session was on Activity management which focused more on planning the activity and required several tools such as brainstorming, Fish bone (Ishikawa), Grantt chart, Critical path analysis etc.

Second session was on Training delivery. The models thought includes NAOMMIE and ADDIE with focus on NAOMMIE model

Third session was a coaching which attempted to distinguish between Monitoring and Coaching.

Participants ended the day with a social evet by visiting the mall and the cinema.

Day 4 - First session
Evaluation and follow up was the topic of focus and Kirk Patricks level of evaluation was the model used which requires the active participation of the trainees. The session ended with the follow up which is used to determine the long term impact of a training event.

Second session
The trainees were grouped into 3 of 3 trainees each to deliver a prototype training session from the knowledge which they had acquired.

Third session
Certificate presentation and pictures.

Overall, the camp fostered team-building and encouraged selflessness in service as demonstrated by its trainers. The skills and knowledge impacted is applicable in everyday life and encourages participants to teach such to other young leaders.
