Recently, in a blog, I talked about how important the choice of paper when drawing with watercolor. There I gave an example of what will happen if you use poor-quality paper and showed the result. Today is a completely different topic. I'll tell you about those kinds of paper, which is perfectly suitable for drawing.
There are many varieties of special paper for watercolors. Those who draw recently may not even realize how important it is to use the materials that are recommended by experienced artists. However, often novice drafters are disappointed in the work just because of the fact that the wrong choice of paper.
In art shops there is always a wide choice of paper for watercolors. As a rule, it is not very cheap. Sheets are sold in three types. This is either cutting in a folder, or in the form of albums of different formats, or in large sheets.
What distinguishes this paper is that it is very porous. As a rule, in the manufacture of such paper, purified cellulose, cotton, or a mixture of cellulose and cotton in different proportions is used. Paper varies in density. In the marking of papers necessarily azyvaetsja weight. For example the figure of 400 g/ sq m means that a sheet of such paper with an area of 1 square meter will weigh 400 grams.
The watercolor paper grades include those that are labeled from 120 to 1200 g/sq. m. That is, starting from fairly thin sheets and ending with a very dense porous cardboard. If you draw small works of A4 or A5 size, it makes no sense to spend money on thick paper, which is very expensive. But to use for watercolor paper thinner will not work, because it will be deformed and torn when wetted. Similarly, for larger works it is better to use either watercolor paper denser 400 g/sq m, especially in cases when you paint on wet surfaces.

It is so true, how paper and their quality affects watercolour pieces! I am learning this myself, right now!
I've bought a few different watercolour sketch books now, and there are some that frustrate me and there are some that made me happy :D The ones I'm using right now is 350gsm, A5 booklets.
