Hello @xxxplasticman! First of all let me say congrats for the curie and for this amazing video. I knew nothing about The Monkeys till now but that's why I like Steemit, there's a great opportunity to learn new things every day.
Back to the song, I've listened to both versions and I have to admit, I like yours better. It's very different, modern. Excellent work, keep it up!

Hmm... Interesting song to pick for an openmic event, but certainly one that sticks and is clear enough that it can be done with most instruments. Gotta say, I at least can hear the guitar strings and a passion to sing and they were appropriate enough for the lyrics, so that puts yah ahead of the league. Also there was a consistent tempo/rhythm all about and no stuttering, so I gotta love when people are confident (even when they make a silly mistake ~^^~). Equally so, recorded not on a dry, parched voice but one that was clear, but that's expected for any contest. All-in-all, even if yah don't win the contest week, your @curie upvote all the more covers for the loses (good job on earning it by the way).
